Job-Specific Responsibilities
Responsible for the routine collection of census data throughout the assigned rodent facility/facilities by scanning radio-frequency identification (RFID) cards at the cage-level with a hand- held device and reconciling data within the electronic system. Responsible for generating, activating, and de-activating cage cards. Responsible for receiving incoming animal shipments and in-house transfers.
Other responsibilities include:
Basic Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of three years’ work experience in laboratory animal care. Additional education may count toward work experience.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs and push/pull up to 300lbs frequently.
- Must be able to walk or stand for a full 7.5 hours shift.
- Must be able to perform in an environment with exposure to animals, animal dander, animal byproducts, and bedding materials for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including respiratory equipment (e.g. N95 mask or PAPR), if/when necessary.

- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and aptitude to learn new software systems.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and collaborate with various personnel through the University.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Strong initiative and the ability to self-motivate.
- LAT certification preferred.
Additional Information
This position is considered to be essential personnel for Harvard Center for Comparative Medicine. Weekend and holiday work may be required as well as attendance during school closures (due to inclement weather and/or other emergencies).
Offer contingent upon successful completion of a pre-placement medical evaluation.
