As a valued member of the Office of Student Success (OSS) team, you will be providing academic advising to prospective and current students of the College of Education, Health and Human Services (CEHHS) at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. The OSS offers a student-centered environment where you will give excellent professional consultation/advice via in-person and virtual meetings with both individual students and group settings. Providing a necessary component to student success, you will guide students through course planning, policy/procedure navigation, and academic and/or degree exploration, among other functions. Currently, the OSS team is working a hybrid schedule, working three days in office and two days remotely each week.

Responsibilities*

70% Direct Service to Students

  • Assist students in identifying majors that align with their future career goals.
  • Advise prospective and current CEHHS students on degree requirements including course planning, course sequencing, and university graduation requirements. 
  • Create and/or revise long and short-term course/requirements plans for students utilizing the Student Educational Planner in DegreeWorks.
  • Provide referrals to student success resources when needed, such as Financial Aid, counseling and student support services, Student Life, etc.
  • Assist students in interpreting campus and college policies and procedures when appropriate.
  • Utilize the Salesforce CRM to respond to student inquiries and maintain detailed notes from advising appointments. 
  • Proactively reach out to students struggling academically and respond to faculty alerts in order to improve student success and retention.
  • Conduct undergraduate student orientations via one-on-one and group opportunities.

20% Administrative Duties

  • Work with CEHHS OSS team to implement a strategic plan as it relates to the University's mission and vision.
  • Collaborate with the CEHHS OSS team to monitor registration issues and barriers experienced by students to make recommendations to Department Chairs.

10% Outreach

  • Collaborate with team members to plan and implement developmental and co-curricular activities and events.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 2 years professional experience in academic advising, higher education, or related field 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic and efficient team
  • Comfortable learning and using new and existing technologies to support job responsibilities

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience with Salesforce, BANNER, DegreeWorks, and Google Suite

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Intermediate Advisor salary range: $43,000 - $46,000

Associate Advisor salary range: $39,000 - $42,000
