Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a part-time Catering Assistant! The general office duties include scheduling catering staff, answering phones and emails, using Microsoft products via computer, printing, and organizing. Serves food to patrons. Responsible for service set-up and clean-up regarding guest service breakfast, lunch, and dinner events. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.
This position requires availability for work from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. While most days will involve working from 9 am to 3 pm, flexibility is necessary to accommodate potential earlier starts or later finishes as needed, particularly for various catering events scheduled throughout the week. 


Summary of Responsibilities

  • 60% Supports the catering department through appropriate use of phone handling, inputs orders via email, schedules appointments, greets guests, answers general and specific inquiries and report data as needed. Maintain accurate records while providing excellent customer service to the internal and external clients. Assigns duties and schedules of student employees. Maintains inventories of catering supplies and equipment. Responsible for inventory control and ordering of equipment, catering supplies, paper, and linen as needed. Other job related duties as assigned.
  • 40% Gather appropriate materials before delivery, deliver food via the use of carts and catering van. Assist in banquet set-up and cleanup, on-site inventory control, preparing and serving food. Responsible for polishing silverware, sanitation, cleaning/maintenance of all equipment and accessories.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Two years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Licenses or Certifications:
  • Must hold an official ID or valid driver’s license


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Customer service, table service and safe serve principles. 
  • Must have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a catering service practice.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • The candidate must have the ability to read, technical procedures, and/or government regulations and written instructions and manuals. 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to read, add, divide and multiply.
  • Customer oriented. 
  • Friendly, helpful, and communicative.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to solve practical problems and work with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret and act on a variety of instructions which may be furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to respond to questions from guests, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to follow direction from supervisor. 
  • Ability to be on time and prepared.
