Job Summary
Eastern Washington University is currently recruiting for a Catalyst Operations Specialist located in our beautiful, new Catalyst building in Downtown Spokane. The Operations Specialist position will report directly to the Executive Director for Catalyst Strategies out of the President’s Office. This position will be located in the Catalyst building at 601 W. Riverside Avenue and is primarily responsible for overseeing and managing EWU operations in the building.
  • As the operations specialist for the Catalyst building, this position works with EWU staff, faculty and students, as well as community partners, to design, plan and develop events and activities at the Catalyst building.
  • This position acts as the primary operations liaison between Eastern Washington University, the property management company (Emerald Initiatives), safety and security units and other tenants in the Catalyst building. This position will ensure that necessary university services are available and accessible to EWU faculty, staff and students at the Catalyst building; this may include space allocation, room scheduling, transportation, parking and mail room services, among others. Problem-solving skills, clear communication and the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders in an independent manner is essential.

Conditions of Employment

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two (2) years professional experience with demonstrated progressive responsibility in organizational operations and project management.
  • Two (2) years professional experience with demonstrated abilities to assist in the development and establishment of new organizational initiatives, programs or activities.
  • Demonstrated competence using spreadsheets (such as MS Excel), information management software (such as MS Outlook) and enterprise resource planning systems (such as Banner).
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, staff, faculty and the public.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years professional experience with demonstrated abilities in the formulation of policies, procedures and standards for organizational initiatives.
  • Experience with organizational budget management or demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated experience using project management software in a professional setting.

    • Work with the Executive Director of Catalyst Strategies, relevant faculty, staff, students and community partners to define operational needs and opportunities at the Catalyst building.
    • Work with the Executive Director of Catalyst Strategies to develop, design, plan and implement programs, activities and events at the Catalyst building.
    • Work with faculty, staff, students and community partners to ensure that operations at the Catalyst building are in alignment with the Catalyst strategic vision and the university’s strategic plan.
    • Monitor and track potential conflicts related to space allocation and resource utilization and proactively attempt to resolve such potential conflicts before problems occur.
    • Recommend changes to Catalyst operations to the Executive Director of Catalyst Strategies that improve student, staff, faculty and/or community experiences at Catalyst and/or resolves known issues, challenges or problems occurring at the Catalyst building.
    • Assist the Executive Director of Catalyst Strategies in developing, establishing, reviewing and revising policies and procedures related to the operation of the Catalyst building.

    • Assist the Executive Director of Catalyst Strategies in managing space allocation and resource utilization at the Catalyst building and serve as the point person for executing space allocation and resource utilization plans.
    • Serve as primary EWU liaison to the property management company for issues related to the needs of EWU faculty, staff and students at the Catalyst building.
    • Serve as the primary Catalyst liaison to the EWU Police Department to communicate safety needs and concerns and assist in formulating solutions to these needs.
    • Coordinate mail and package receiving for Spokane-based faculty and staff.
    • Coordinate the scheduling of tours of the Catalyst building for prospective students and community groups / members with the EWU Visitor’s Center.
    • Supervise process for keys, office equipment, and hours of operation to students, faculty, and staff.
    • Manage protocols related to equipment/furniture inventory, damages, damage billing, and lost keys.
