Position Summary
The Division of Library and Information Resources/H. T. Sampson Library at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Cataloging Librarian position.

Qualifications


Minimum Required Education
Must have an ALA accredited degree (Masters) in library science.
Minimum Required Experience
A minimum of advanced cataloging courses, with successful, professional, and academic library coursework, internship, or work experience.
Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications
None.
Qualifications
  • A strong business background desired.
  • Must have the aptitude for training and directing the work of others.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of library operations.
  • Considerable knowledge of library automation.
  • Competency in computer and information literacy.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Interpersonal skills marked by the ability to maintain excellent rapport with library staff and patrons.
  • Ability to work Independently.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain an efficient work flow of materials.
  • Recommend policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate donated materials for inclusion in library collections.
  • Serve as liaison to Periodicals.
  • Develop strategic plans.
  • Maintain departmental statistics and prepare reports as requested by the Interim Dean of Libraries.
  • Establish and maintain quality control standards with regard to copy cataloging operations, authority control, data input, and database maintenance.
  • Recommend and initiate improvements to access library materials.
  • Establish policies and procedures.
  • Set goals and evaluate results for the area.
  • Verify content of the library’s database relative to the area.
  • Adjust information on records accordingly based on policies, procedures, and accepted industry practices.
  • Perform original cataloging or copy cataloging of library material.
  • Work evening and weekend schedules as assigned.
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports.
  • Ensure library services and materials are available for all patrons.
  • Will share nights and weekends.
