Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia – principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. Our scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).
PVCC is accepting applications for a part-time cataloging/acquisitions assistant. The hours are Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., in person. This position is part time, with no benefits, and does not exceed 29 hours/week.
This is not a remote position.
Duties:

  • Assists with the processing of new library materials.
  • Assists with the acquisition of library materials.
  • Digitizes, uploads, and archives materials for the College’s institutional repository, the Panther Vault.
  • Conducts record maintenance in the integrated library system, Alma.
  • Checks in new periodicals and shelves them daily.
  • Assists with marketing library materials, such as writing blog posts.
  • Compiles new booklist to send to employees.
  • Mends and repairs books.
  • Maintains collection statistics.
  • Checks-in mail daily and delivers to division.
  • Assists Cataloging/Collection Development Librarian with special projects as needed.
  • Willing to provide coverage for other part-time shifts, including evening, as needed.
  • Provides backup to circulation by checking library materials in and out, including both books and equipment.
  • Provides frontline support by helping patrons both in-person and over the phone.
  • Assists patrons with printing and using the computers, troubleshooting problems, and routing issues to the appropriate department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Superior customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
