Job Summary

Please note: This is a temporarily funded one-year position; renewal beyond one year will be dependent upon obtaining external funding. 

Within CAT, a Full Stack Engineer I is responsible for the technical design and development of technical design and development of both front-end and back-end custom source code for unique applications that are both internally and publicly accessible. They are an integral member of a cross-functional team responsible for promoting research and development of access technologies that will positively impact the quality of lives for all deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.


Job Responsibilities

This position is primarily responsible, to varying degrees, for creating, planning, consulting, designing, engineering, evaluating, overseeing, and/or implementing new technical or operational processes, programs, systems, products, or projects. Work requires novel, creative, and innovative approaches to make decisions and solve new and unknown problems where processes, methods, and guidelines are unclear, need to be adapted, or not established.
Responsible for duties such as the following:

  • develop or participate in short to long range strategic plans for overall operations and/or systems/networks/software/applications/security information technologies.
  • applies systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users, to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications
  • design, develop, document, analyze, create, test or modify computer systems or programs, including prototypes, based on and related to user or system design specifications
  • design, document, test, create or modify computer programs related to machine operating systems
  • serve as unit or project leader, directing and reviewing activities of project group members. Serve as a technology/operations advisor.
  • plan for integration and development of computing resources and advise individuals and departments on systems/networks/software/applications/security and the interaction of various systems on all computing platforms.

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • 1  year of:
    • experience with full stack development in a Unix-like environment.
    • experience with the software development lifecycle process, software quality assurance processes, source code control, and change management.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree, type of degree or specific years of experience if directly relatable to the experience and education specified.

Skills:

  • Knowledge or willingness to learn American Sign Language
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to work directly with business partners and end users 
  • Capability to facilitate meetings attended by business partners, technical staff and end user
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills are required. Ability to learn new technical, functional and business concepts without formal training 
  • Possess self-initiative to be given general guidance on an objective and to achieve that objective with minimal managerial guidance 
  • Ability to analyze a business problem and evaluate the impact of potential solutions from both a business and technical perspective
  • Ability to present technical concepts in an appropriate manner that can be understood by business partners, technical staff, and end users 
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle process, software quality assurance processes, source code control and change management 
  • Strong database driven application development experience 
  • Significant experience with Javascript, PHP, SQL, jquery
