Job Summary
The Guest & Member Experience Team (GMET) Associate position at the Natural History Museum of Utah plays a key role in the successful daily operation of the museum. This position is responsible for ensuring outstanding customer service, conducting sales of admissions and memberships, maintaining communication and workspace management, conveying a general knowledge of the museum’s collections, galleries, and policies. Position also includes the opportunity for associates to get involved in and learn about other areas of the Philanthropy and Communications Team, including marketing, social media events, and membership operations via regular rotations as well as a competitive internship.

Employees at NHMU who work in guest facing positions who are fluent in a language beyond English, and willing to engage with guests in that language, will receive a 50 cent per hour increase to their wage. 
Responsibilities
1. Guest/Customer Service:  Proactively engage with guests during transactions, in the galleries, and other public spaces; demonstrate customer service standards to both internal and external guests via positive and professional communication; attempt to resolve guest concerns before escalating them to the Guest & Member Experience Team Lead or Guest & Member Experience Manager; maintain gallery, Welcome Desk, Info Desk, and Reception Desk cleanliness; other duties as assigned.
2. Sales:  Ensures an efficient and informative transaction for each guest and provide details of upcoming programs, events, exhibits, and other promotions; promote and facilitate the sales of museum memberships; handles cash & credit transactions in an accurate manner, balancing a designated cash drawer during shift; daily use of the museum’s operating system Altru; other duties as assigned.
3. Communication & Workspace Management:  Use of a radio to communicate with fellow GMET members and other departments; download and utilize Microsoft Teams to communicate with coworkers and GMET Manager; attend occasional staff meetings and/or events after hours; aware of daily activities and programs happening in the museum; use the museum’s scheduling software, HotSchedules, to know work schedule, request time off, and get shifts covered; other duties as assigned.
4. Museum Knowledge & Engagement: Share general knowledge of the museum’s galleries and collections with guests; awareness of the Community Norms set in place at the museum; knowledge of the museums mission statement and strategic goals and how the GMET department plays a role in that; know and enforce the policies and procedures of the GMET department and museum at large; engage in team building exercises, public lectures, and events; conduct visitor exit surveys; other duties as assigned
5. Philanthropy and Communications Team Rotations: Assist with onsite and offsite events, membership fulfilment, assisting the team in marketing and communications projects; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Six months cashiering experience, basic mathematical skills, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Word processing and spreadsheet skills may be preferred for certain positions.
