Salary Range

Essential Duties

Construct, erect, install and repair structures and fixtures of wood, metal, drywall, plywood and wallboard using carpenter's hand tools and power tools and conforming to local building codes. Follow blueprints, sketches, or building plans to ascertain information pertaining to type of material required for project, and dimensions of structure or fixtures to be fabricated. Select specified types of lumber and other materials based on type and scope of project. Prepare layout, using tape measure, framing square, plumb bob and level. Measure, cut and shape wood, plastic, metal and other materials using nails, screws and glue. Construct building framework, including walls, floors, doorframes and acoustical ceilings. Fit and install window frames, doors, door closers, interior and exterior trim.  Clearly communicate to perform essential functions of the job.

Days and Schedule:  Monday-Friday   7:00am-3:30pm


Minimum Qualifications

Six years of carpentry experience; OR, Completion of a four year federally approved technical training program in carpentry AND two years of carpentry experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment. Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of employment to include asbestos worker clearance, respiratory clearance questionnaire and respiratory fit test. May participate in programs which involve adherence to program regulations, including physical exam, annual testing, x-rays, medication, vaccinations at ASU expense, and completion of a Health Surveillance Questionnaire.


Desired Qualifications

Experience in:

  • commercial or industrial carpentry environments
  • using hand, power and shop tools specific to the carpentry trade
  • working with drywall
  • performing estimates of time and material
  • framing walls
  • installing suspended ceiling grid and tile
  • installing flooring, including carpet tile, VCT, and ceramic tile
  • installing and adjusting doors, door frames and door hardware
  • working directly with end user and delivery of excellent customer service


Knowledge of:

  • roofing systems, and repairs.
  • computer software, CMMS work load tracking. 

Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.


Working Environment

Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally required to sit; walk and climb or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and fumes or airborne particles, restricted movement. Work outside in extreme temperatures and in a dirty environment. May be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting.  Utilize personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator).  Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Drive University vehicle/cart.

May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator).  Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use.

Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment.  Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
