The University of South Alabama’s department of Renovations is seeking to hire a Carpenter II. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions


These are the job duties required of the position.


Essential Functions
  • Reads floor plans and basic structural drawings.
  • Estimates and orders materials for assigned projects.
  • Performs rough and finished carpentry to include the erection of all types of walls, ceilings and roofs built from wood, metal, or vinyl materials which may require climbing to various heights.
  • Hangs and finishes drywall and makes repairs to drywall and plaster.
  • Paints walls, doors, and frames; shoots and sets grades.
  • Builds head walls.
  • Builds and sets concrete forms.
  • Places rebar.
  • Pours and finishes concrete.
  • Builds, installs, and/or modifies new and existing cabinets and shelving.
  • Installs plastic laminates.
  • Installs and repairs wood flooring, vinyl flooring, vinyl base and carpet and ceramic tile.
  • Complies with safety regulations.
  • Erects scaffolding.
  • Moves equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Demolishes and properly disposes of wood, metal, brick, block, plaster, drywall, ceramic tile, non-asbestos flooring, vinyl flooring, carpet, concrete, and insulation into a designated roll-off dumpster.
  • Installs wood and metal door and window frames, hardware, closets, locksets, and panic devices.
  • Uses and maintains all types of power tools to include drills, screw gun, sawsall, circular saw, radial armsaw, table saw planer, sanders, roto-hammer drill, bandsaw, tamp, jackhammer, scrapers, air compressor, nail gun, stapler, jigsaw and router.
  • Performs clean up of all construction sites to include sweeping, mopping, raking, hosing, shoveling, and scraping.
  • Supervises lower level employees and contractors to include assigning duties and checking work.
  • Uses University vehicle to travel to various job sites and transport equipment.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.
