This position generally requires a 20-35 hour work week. Most work hours will occur Mon – Fri between 9am and 9pm. Occasional weekend hours will be required. The official work schedule will be negotiated with the immediate supervisor.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Campus Recreation provides a diverse and intentional recreational program in a safe, inclusive, and accessible environment which enhances the social, mental, and physical well-being of the entire University community. With this mission as the focus, Campus Recreation maintains several facilities around campus to help students stay active. In addition to the Rams Head Recreation Center and the Student Recreation Center, there is an indoor and outdoor pool, a number of outdoor courts for tennis, basketball, volleyball and paddle tennis, and lighted fields for sport club practices/matches and team intramural sports. Students have about 50 sport clubs and more than 40 intramural sports for men’s, women’s, and co-rec teams; in addition to a variety of aquatic and fitness classes/programs, expeditions, challenge course and climbing.
Position Summary
The Program Assistant assists with the leadership, management and delivery of Carolina Adventures’ diverse and comprehensive Experiential Education program. The Program Assistant contributes to the supervision and mentorship of student employees to create safe, inclusive, and accessible recreational programs for the University community and assists with oversight and implementation of high impact experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate participants through direct teaching, observation, feedback loops, and formal assessment tools.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assist with the administration and management of all Carolina Adventures activities including Expeditions, Challenge Course, and Climbing programs.
-Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of Carolina Adventures staff. -Scheduling student Expeditions employees for programs and events.
-Assist with development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures for all Carolina Adventures programs.
-Co-create Annual training cycle for Carolina Adventures’ student staff to cross-train team members for work across all three parts of Carolina Adventures.
Coordinate Expeditions programming, trainings, and assist with gear management and trip preparation.
-Review, evaluate and update policies, procedures and employee manuals -Provide customer service and outreach for all Carolina Adventures Programs.
-Assist in the management of Carolina Adventures Social Media platforms promoting upcoming events and highlighting recent program accomplishments.
-Assist Carolina Adventures with data collection, tracking, and analysis. Utilize this data to influence programming decisions
-Meet weekly with Carolina Adventures professional staff.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
·Experience at the collegiate level in the organization and administration of expeditionary and other Experiential Education programming.
·Experience training, developing, and supervising trip leaders and employees.
·Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills, proven written and organization skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
·Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
-Ability to utilize When-to-Work and Fusion software.
-Wilderness First Responder Certification or willingness to get one.
-CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification or willingness to get one within 60 days of hire.
·One year of professional experience working in an outdoor recreation or related setting.
