Career Services Coordinator is part of Northern State University’s Student Success Center in the Academic Affairs division. This position provides leadership and direction for the implementation of career development and professional development opportunities and employment search resources for undergraduate and graduate students.
Job Duties:
Provide individualized career consultation to students.
  • This position works with undergraduate and graduate students to provide personalized career development appointments and activities.
  • This position provides leadership and direction for the implementation of career development and employment search resources for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • In addition, this position provides career counseling/coaching services to undecided students and students considering a change of major.
  • The office will also assist students applying for graduate or professional schools, and maintain resources to supplement this service.
  • Develop and teach seminars for resume writing, cover letters, job interview etiquette
  • Collaborate with faculty in each school for internship promotion and preparation.
  • Collaborate with career development director from other universities, Institutional Research, and other partners.

Invite and host job recruiters on campus to develop and maintain positive employer relationships.
  • The Career Services office is the main campus liaison with regional employers, and maintains and cultivates a large network to provide employment and internship opportunities to Northern students.
  • The coordinator will collaborate with academic departments, school/college professional advisors, and the Alumni office to provide services and opportunities to students.
  • The coordinator will lead and facilitate networking events and activities for students.
  • In addition, the coordinator will work closely with directors/coordinators of career services from other universities in the state, as well as other state and local agencies, in hosting and participating in statewide and local job fairs.
  • The Career Services office maintains and posts job and internship openings, both on campus and off, and develops and maintains a career resource library.

Other duties as assigned to ensure effective oversight of the Career Services program and initiatives.
  • The coordinator also partners with a career pathways specialist and supervises a graduate assistant and student employees who assist in the day-to-day operations of the Career Services office.
  • The coordinator will be responsible for completing annual and regular department assessment activities and reports.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. Background in counseling, education, student services, human resources, psychology, or related field preferred. Experience working in career services, career development, academic advising, or human resources preferred.
Other requirements:
Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating programs; organizational skills and ability to plan and execute large-scale events. Strong communication skills, presentation skills, and networking experience, ability to collaborate with faculty and other campus personnel and offices. Experience with technology and career-related software platforms.
Some supervisory experience, budget management experience. Ability to use remote conferencing and virtual platforms for networking and program delivery.
