The Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy consists of two schools, the School of Public Policy and Management and the School of Information Systems and Management and offers an academic experience unlike any other. Heinz College prepares students with a unique ability to conduct careful and objective analysis of relevant data, to understand and demonstrate the power of information technology, and to lead and implement change in managerial and policy contexts.

Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College Career Services team is looking for a summer Content and Design intern to manage the Career Academy program and assist with updating design elements for the department. Career Academy takes incoming Heinz College students through a range of online career development exercises designed to introduce them to Career Services before they arrive to campus.

Core responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for bundling assignments, communicating with incoming students, and keeping track of results and outcomes

  • Together with your supervisor, will pre-determine the program’s learning outcomes, along with the steps for achieving these goals

  • Distribute the assignments to students, handle any issues or questions from students, and keep track of participation

  • Responsible for evaluating the program and preparing a final report that shows participation and achievement

  • Assist with crafting presentations and documents

You should demonstrate:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and time limits in a fast-paced environment

  • Proven track record to self-start projects and learn tools or software as needed

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, specifically Excel and Power Point

  • Capacity to efficiently collect, analyze, and present data

  • Comfortable working with or ability to learn Handshake, our recruiting platform

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Enrollment in graduate program related to higher education, student affairs, and counsel preferred

  • The ideal candidate has a curiosity about higher education program management and exposure to Career Services, although that is not a requirement.

Additional Information:

  • Work Posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in office presence.

  • Typical Work Schedule: 15-20 hours per week

  • Fixed Term: This is a fixed term position running from end of May 2024 through mid-August 2024 with an estimated duration of 3 months.
