Summary of Job Duties:

Career Peer Mentors (CPM) work in the Career Studio, an open concept environment where U of A students can drop in without an appointment located in the Student Success Center. CPMs provide one-on-one and group advising/coaching in a variety of career-related areas, including resume and cover letter reviews, interview tips and mock interviews, and job/internship search assistance, among others. CPM’s are friendly and reliable with great interpersonal skills, who are looking for an opportunity to motivate their peers to set and achieve their career goals. CPMs have the opportunity to represent the Offices of Career Connections and the Career Studio in presentations to student organizations on campus and assist at career fairs and events.
The Offices of Career Connections utilizes the 8 NACE career competencies to help prepare students for their future careers. These competencies include; leadership, teamwork, communication, critical thinking, equity and inclusion, technology, career and self development, and professionalism. In this role, you will learn about these competencies while preparing yourself for your future career and supporting your peers.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Maintain at least a 2.7 cumulative GPA each semester

  • Must be currently enrolled, full-time student at U of A

Preferred Qualifications:

  • rising sophomore, junior, May 2025 senior, or graduate student at the time of employment (August 2024). 

  • Available up to 15 hours/week during Career Studio hours (Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Schedule determined on a semesterly basis. Hours are based on individual availability and collective group needs during scheduling process. 

  • Work Study Award Requirement: Federal Work Study award preferred 

Knowledge, Skills Abilities:

  • Strong ability to assist/advise U of A students 

  • Strong communicationpresenting, mentoring, problem-solving skills 

  • Basic editing and punctuation skills 

  • Experience with Microsoft Suite (Teams, Outlook, Microsoft Word, Sharepoint, etc.) 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment 

  • Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this position

Salary Information:


$13.00 per hour
