Purpose

This position coordinates all operations related to career services provided to undergraduate students and recent alumni within the College of Education. Position is part of the student affairs team and reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs.


Responsibilities

  • Provides career advising (individually and in group settings) on internships, job search assistance, résumé reviews, and mock interviews and career resources to College of Education undergraduate students and recent alumni. Collaborates with Texas Career Engagement as well as with other university career offices.

  • Event Management. Plans, manages, and implements the Teacher Fairs and KHE/YCS fairs twice per year. Oversees the registrations and responds to employer and student inquiries. Promotes events to students, advisors, and faculty. Evaluates and assesses fairs. Plans, develops, manages, and implements career-related workshops, including the Job Search Tools Workshop, Recruiter Panels, and Networking Events. Promotes, evaluates, and assesses events for ongoing improvement.

  • FIGS. Facilitates up to two First-Year Interest Groups (FIGs) focused on first-year transition experience for College of Education undergraduates.

  • Outreach. Initiates contact with new/existing employers to attend career and networking events, as appropriate. Works with advisors and other career staff to develop new initiatives to support career engagement. Works with Education Services unit to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with area school districts as sites for graduates of teacher certification programs.

  • Maintenance. Manages the career tool “Hire UTexas powered by Handshake” to include reviewing and approving postings for jobs and internships. Oversees and promotes the College of Education’s UT Hooked In User Group. Handles inquiries from students and employers. Participates in career services-related meetings and promotes outcomes to students, academic advisors, faculty, and college leadership. Manages and develops new resources for career website to include social media tools. Works closely with the Office of Marketing and Communications.

  • Data and Administration. Provides end-of-year career services reports to college leadership. Maintains database on gainful employment data and other post-graduate outcomes, including tracking initial placements of COE graduates. Shares data with current and prospective students. Manages the career engagement office email and responds to inquiries. Handles Information Session requests from employers.

  • Supervision & Other Duties. Supervises graduate assistant (GA). Assists in other events hosted by the Student Affairs Office, Education Services Office, and Dean’s Office as needed. Other duties, as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Five years of full-time experience working in higher education Career Services.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Excellent writing and speaking skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Experience supporting students from non-traditional and first-generation and backgrounds.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • More than three years’ experience working in Career Services and a master’s degree.

  • Experience supporting students in programs that require certification.

  • Knowledge of certification guidelines, as related to the certification of teachers, or other professions.

  • Experience supporting students from non-traditional and first-generation and backgrounds.


Salary Range

$62,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
