Career Development Specialist
Job Description
Arizona State University & The College of Global Futures (CGF) seek a Career Development Specialist dedicated to providing career development and advising services to its undergraduate and graduate students and alumni. The Career Development Specialist will guide the college’s students and alumni into internships and permanent employment opportunities by securing and maintaining recruiting relationships through direct contact and on-site visits with local, regional, and national business communities. The college’s home campus is the Tempe campus, but currently has students at the Tempe, Polytechnic, Downtown Phoenix, and Online campuses. There is an opportunity for a hybrid schedule with some remote work, but the specialists will need to be in the office the majority of the work week.

Essential Duties
- Provides supportive and timely in-person, phone, virtual via Zoom, and email internship, career development, and employment advising to CGF students and alumni.
- Assists students with internship and job search strategies, interviewing techniques and salary negotiation strategy. Provides guidance and critiques on resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, and Handshake profiles.
- Establishes meaningful, structured internship opportunities for students with government, business, and non-profit organizations and monitors and provides guidance on internship compliance with department, university, and external policies and procedures.
- Sources local, national, and international internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students (including online students).
- Develops and implements marketing strategies to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external organizations and businesses.
- Promotes and facilitates on-campus recruiting and job posting services.
- Supports students and internship providers with completion of necessary internship paperwork and provides overrides for enrollment into internship courses.
- Coordinates college and school LinkedIn groups, discussions, and job postings.
- Shares relevant professional development events and opportunities with students and alumni through various communication channels.
- Teach SOS 231: Careers in Sustainability & 484: Internship (at least two sections/year).
- Works with student services team to organize and offer seminars, workshops, panels, guest speakers, career fairs, and other networking and professional development opportunities.
- Researches and tracks trends and prepares and presents information for different audiences, including employers, parents/families, prospective and current students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
- Use Salesforce tools to track, respond to, and follow-up on inquiries and for relationship management.
- Coordinates as necessary with ASU Career and Professional Development Services and other ASU career services units.
- Serves as a liaison between the College of Global Futures and the business community.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Behavioral Science, Education or a related field AND three (3) years college relations or student advisement experience in higher education or the equivalent; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and /or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with diverse populations in higher education.
- Experience with advising, counseling, guiding, and coaching students and/or alumni.
- Knowledge of career development theory and the application of theory to practice with individuals and groups.
- Knowledge of sustainability, innovation, biomimicry, and complexity career and occupational resources, trends, and opportunities; career assessments and online career resources.
- Experience designing effective presentation materials and giving oral presentations in group settings.
- Experience working with appointment scheduling software.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Evidence of effective communication.
- Experience in time management, project management, and organizational skills.
- Experience using various types of systems and software (e.g., scheduling, student, communication, document management, Google tools, and Microsoft Office).
Working Environment
- Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting.
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer;
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
- Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.
