About the Opportunity


Career Development Advisor – Silicon Valley 


Under the Associate Director of Career Development and Experiential Learning at the Silicon Valley campus and in conjunction with the experiential learning and career development staff within the Colleges, the Career Development Advisor will create and implement career programming, professional development, and experiential learning opportunities for all Bay Area learners. This individual is responsible for assisting students in securing appropriate experiential learning opportunities (co-ops, internships, projects, hackathons, etc.) across the Bay Area with a focus on technical and tech-adjacent opportunities. This role will advise and coach students individually and in groups throughout the job search and application process, with a focus on topics related to career development and employment search, including resume and cover letter development and review, interview techniques, and effective job search strategies. This will involve both industry and region-specific content, as well as incorporating career preparation curricula from partner colleges. 
 


Student Services and Support (70%): 


  •  Establish, develop, nurture and maintain learner relationships to provide exceptional career-related support and guidance to students throughout the full lifecycle of their journey as a Northeastern student and alumnus/a. 

  •  Contribute to career and professional development for our growing student population, including managing innovative career events, delivering seminars, hosting networking sessions, and growing the signature career programming for the region. 

  •  Facilitate and grow experiential learning, job placement, projects and other career-related opportunities across college programs. 

  •  Ensure positive, collegial partnerships and working relationships with faculty and staff to ensure successful student outcomes. 

  •  Support the growth of project-based learning and Experiential Network (XN) by helping students access and participate in projects that align with both job market needs and their experiential learning goals. 

  •  Develop, deliver, and support student orientations, services, and programs, employer/sponsor information sessions, and other tools and events to ensure students are aligned with and competitive for experiential learning and job opportunities.  

  •  Support and promote opportunities (jobs, internships, research, projects, service learning, etc.) to student populations. 


  


 Administration and Reporting (30%): 


  


  •  Track and continually improve our processes and systems for tracking student career outcomes and key milestones across the career journey for students assigned in the caseload.  This includes participation in experiential learning, internships, co-op, and other work experience, as well as full-time placement metrics. 

  •  Ensure accurate records are kept in terms of work authorization/compliance for students and employers. 

  •  Develop and execute surveys that keep the pulse on student experiences. 

  •  Track, manage, and facilitate student interactions with career development events and experiential opportunities using Northeastern systems (NUworks [Symplicity], Handshake, Canvas, Salesforce, etc.) to collect applications and organize learner's participation, engage existing employers, oversee participants, and facilitate student experiences in experiential and career-related programs.  

  •  Provide and utilize predictive analysis of student participation trends to drive programmatic improvements each semester.  


  


 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 


  •  Experience working in a student/career-focused environment and have a professional background in experiential learning, preferably in the technology education space, AND/OR, worked as a technical recruiter, technical hiring manager, or in a similar function.   

  •  An understanding of industry hiring and employment trends relevant to the degree programs offered by this campus and the ability to conduct independent research in these areas.   

  •  Excellent skills in relationship building, event planning, marketing, public relations, and database management.   

  •  Strong communication, presentation and workshop facilitation skills and an interest in working in a highly collaborative role with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and external partners.   

  •  Flexibility and an interest in wearing multiple hats as this role will require comfort with evolving priorities.    

  •  Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; familiarity with work authorization processes in the US (CPT/OPT) a plus.   

  •  Knowledge and skills normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with at least one to three years' experience supporting career development at a higher education institution or job-focused training program (e.g., bootcamp/workforce development).   

  •  Experience working with professional master’s students is preferred. 


 


The expected hiring range is $58,100 to $74,075 based on the position's responsibilities and scope.
