Career Connector - Employer Relations

Summary

The Kuhlin Career Hub is the centralized career space for BGSU, offering individual but connected teams of career professionals working to support our students and employers. The Career Connector – Employer Relations role is a part of the Career Connections team, and advances the Hub’s mission through establishing and developing key relationships with recruiters and hiring managers and driving on-campus engagement to support the career and professional development of students.  


This position requires a significant level of interpersonal ability, initiative, strategic thinking, diligence, and willingness to serve as an advocate on behalf of students across the University. Responsibilities will emphasize industry research, networking, utilization of relationship management tools, and maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of employer relations best practices in higher education.


Essential Functions

External Relations 

  • Develop and maintain employer relationships within targeted industries to increase and expand on-campus engagement in alignment with the Kuhlin Career Hub’s Partnership Recognition Program.
  • Coordinate events involving employers, including, but not limited to, career fairs, career treks, employer information sessions/workshops, and employer tabling.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Project Manager on marketing projects designed to increase student awareness and drive registration for employer-related events.
  • Assist with employer and job approvals as well as the creation and management of events and fairs in Handshake.


Internal Relations 

  • Liaise to assigned colleges/units/programs. Establish relationships with department chairs, unit leaders, faculty, and student organizations/clubs, involving them as appropriate in company engagement strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the University, programs of study, and strategic priorities.
  • Actively participate in campus life, including attendance at key events such as Homecoming, athletic competitions, student performances, gift announcements, and groundbreakings and dedications.
  • Host industry professionals at events that advance organizational relationships.


Data and Process 

  • Record and track employer contacts and activity via Salesforce and in accordance with divisional policies and procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and awareness of labor market trends and information relevant to targeted portfolio of industries.
  • Follow all established processes and policies as established by University leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and AVP/ED for Kuhlin Career Hub.


Minimum Qualifications

The following Degree is required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree must be conferred at the time of application.

The following Degree is preferred:
  • Master's degree

The following Experience is required:
  • 3 years of professional experience

The following Experience is preferred:
  • Experience in higher education, career development, counseling, or similar
  • Experience in university recruiting

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to operate with decorum and professionalism.
  • Understanding or willingness to learn industry best practice, NACE guidelines, and BGSU-specific policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Ability to review and interpret data as it relates to the role.
  • Ability to work responsibly within a set budget.
  • Willingness to employ all manner of appropriate communication to secure visits with prospective companies. This role will require some amount of local, regional, and national travel, with supervisor approval.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook required; experience working in CRM databases
