Position Title:                    Career Coach, Center for Career Development & Academic Exploration - (Hiring multiple positions) 

Reports to:                         Assistant Director, Employer Development

Grade/Classification:     MR07/Exempt, full-time staff position

 

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for the position of Career Coach (two positions available) in the Center for Career Development and Academic Exploration (CCDAE).

The Division: The Division of Student Success at UT works to engage each student scholar’s experience by supporting their unique strengths and goals. It collaborates with UT faculty and staff to help each student scholar maximize their individual strengths and understand how their strengths contribute to their academic dreams, career paths, and personal well-being. As a member of Student Success, the center’s mission is empowering student scholars to create and achieve career goals by providing comprehensive career education.

 

The Department: The center provides comprehensive career development offerings and resources to undergraduate and graduate students from eleven academic colleges. Staff is comprised of 25 staff, 4 graduate assistants, 10+ peer career advisors, and several student employees.  The CCDAE is committed to diversity and inclusion and helping students explore the impact of identity on career development.

 

Position Summary: The Career Coach assists undergraduate and graduate students in designated majors in the Tickle College of Engineering or STEM/Pre-health with career plan strategy and implementation through individual and group career coaching; delivers presentations/programs to student groups, classes, and university staff as needed; builds relationships/connections among the career community to create opportunities for experiential learning, networking, job searching, and graduate school admission. Coach also assists employers with their hiring needs and making connections with students.

 



Qualifications

 

Position Responsibilities:

Career Coaching: - (Hiring multiple positions) 

·         Conduct individual/group career coaching sessions for students in designated majors on career opportunities within industries, job and experience strategies, development of communication resources such as resumes, interviews, letters, and LinkedIn profiles;

·         Plan/Develop/Facilitate new career events and initiatives to address career needs and create opportunities for engagement and connections with employers and alumni;

·         Partner with faculty, academic advisors, and other college staff to provide programming;

·         Utilize Handshake and other relevant technologies to facilitate communication/marketing and maintain case notes.

 

 

 

DATA AND ASSESSMENT:

·         Collect and compile data including but not limited to appointments, programming, recruiting activity, assessments and first destination outcomes;

·         Track students from designated majors and industry areas and collect data on internships and first destinations of graduating students in the 12Twenty system;

·         Create and disseminate reports based on this information to college administration; Create learning outcomes for programs and conduct assessments.   

Employer Relations

·         Partner with the college to develop employer relationships through need-based recruiting consultation;

·         Aid employers in recruiting and connecting with students by utilizing on-line technologies and on-campus programming;

·         Increase employer engagement on campus via participation in events (career fairs, networking events, etc.); Assist with job fair planning and implementation;

·         Collaborate with faculty/professional staff to deliver career development and employment information and services to various majors/classes/organizations/ departments (advising centers, student professional organizations, and others);         

 

Qualifications:

Education

Required: Master's degree within one month of hire. Preferred: Degree in counseling, college student personnel, education, or related field

 

Experience

Required:

One academic year experience (which could include graduate assistantships) working with college students or one academic year experience working with other clients on job search related skills and topics.

Preferred:

·         Working with college students in a setting related to career development, academic advising, or student success;

·         Experience working with students from designated academic disciplines or associated employment industries.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Required:

·         Strong interpersonal skills, including oral, written, and listening communication capabilities;

·         Ability to plan, organize and coordinate events and programs;

·         Strong computer skills.

Preferred:

·         Knowledge of job search strategies and career development theories, best practices, and resources;

·         Knowledge of on-line career database systems and other current/emerging technologies within the career development field;

·         Ability to build relationships across populations, internal and external to the University.

 

Salary:  $45,000-47,000 and accompanied by a university benefits package.
