General Introduction

 

NYU Shanghai and NYU Stern’s joint MS programs were launched in Spring 2018. Since then, the programs have attracted worldwide interest and the first cohorts graduated in May 2020, moving on to full-time placements at top companies, banks, consultancies, and other institutions.


In the course of his/her responsibilities, the successful candidate will also work closely with NYU Shanghai’s Office of Graduate and Advanced Education and NYU Stern. For more information about the MS programs, please visit https://stern.shanghai.nyu.edu/en/.

The Career Advisor for Graduate Business will be expected to support graduate students’ career education, develop employer resources, assess and analyze students’ employment data, and serve as a marketing and communication professional to promote career service and events to students in the NYU Shanghai - NYU Stern MS programs.

 

 

The main responsibilities include:

 

Employer Relations and Events Support (40%)                      

  • Work with the team to plan and execute CDC events such as Career Fair, On Campus Recruitment Sessions, Industry Sharing Sessions, Recruitment preparation Sessions, Company Visits, and other events;
  • Work closely with colleagues to develop marketing strategy and compose content for promoting CDC events and services to MS students and other potential audiences;
  • Work with the team to develop and maintain a large network of employer contacts for the NYU Shanghai - NYU Stern MS programs. Serve as a contact person for employers to support their job postings, campus engagement initiatives and any questions or concerns.

Data Assessment and System Operation (25%)                                                                                                           

  • Assist to collect, track and analyze student employment data and students’ graduation reports;
  • Utilize CDC online platforms to gather, track, analyze different students’ career data and generate reports for the master programs’ decision making and career-related events evaluating;
  • Work with the line manager to maintain different CDC master programs’ career platforms and systems, such as Gallup, VMock, CareerLeader, Violet Network, etc.

Career Education and Career Resources Development (25%)

  • Work closely with line manager to manage NYU Shanghai-NYU Stern master students to enhance students' understanding of career path, career related skills and industry-specific job search information and processes, with the future expectation of delivering walk-ins, coaching appointments, and career education workshops;
  • Research, review, develop and generate print and online career resources including industry guides, career skill guides, online career tools, and other resources as needed;
  • Develop internship and job opportunities globally, especially in Asia and China, to support MS students’ job-hunting process.

Administrative Responsibilities (10%)

  • Provide supports on managing Chinese students’ Hukou issues, three party agreement, senior students’ recommendation letters, and other documents;
  • Support important areas such as office administration, CDC space management and supervision of fellows, master students CDC ambassadors and interns;
  • Work with the Admissions team for the MS programs to assist on recruitment efforts;
  • Support other administrative duties and new initiatives/programs/events that may arise throughout the year for CDC.


Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, graduate degree preferred;
  • Prior degree or interest in data analytics, finance, or other business subjects highly valued.

Preferred Experience

  • Full-time experience in a career services or other student services function highly valued;
  • Full-time experience in corporate recruiting, human resources, or executive search highly valued;
  • Desire to become adept in career coaching, employment strategies and general student development activities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good communications, analytical and organizational skills;
  • Strong portfolio of communication skills in Mandarin and English;
  • Emphasis on presentation skills, with previous experience developing and presenting career development workshops and programs, and capacity to communicate information and key messages to diverse stakeholders, from senior executives to prospective students;
  • Interaction with corporate recruiters, alumni, staff, and students is integral to the position, so strong interpersonal and team skills are essential;
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
