The Capital and Translation Development Analyst (CTDA) will play a vital role in assessing the capital ecosystem engaged with Ohio State and contributing to strategy development and execution with respect to increasing the strength and breadth of our relationships across the funding continuum (both dilutive and non-dilutive) within the Technology Commercialization Office (TCO) at The Ohio State University under the direction of the Manager, Capital and Translation. This role will determine how to deploy gap funding to support growth of the university’s portfolio of high potential technologies and manage aspects of funds deployment. The CTDA will engage researchers across the university to support entrepreneurial education and will work with other units within TCO and the university to coach and prepare faculty interested in pursuing a startup. Advises select faculty who are receiving gap funding to determine targets and approaches to mitigating risk with their technology for maximum impact. Discovers and collaborates with talent and ‘founding teams’ comprised of business and technical leaders for startup companies that license OSU technology during company inception and through pre-company formation commercialization stages.

The CTDA will support the execution of fund investment and commercialization opportunities, including due diligence, term negotiations, and equity allocation for the university and external investors in partnership with the licensing team. This role will serve as a resource for new startup companies on various aspects of commercialization such as product development, go-to-market strategy, and operational activities. Independently contributes to brand-building efforts for Ohio State through networking, attendance at industry events and conferences, and public engagements. Builds and maintains relationships with external investors and portfolio investments using disciplined account management practices. Supports translation funds and work closely with internal and external translators focused on advancing university technology. 

To effectively mitigate risks, this position will play a pivotal role in cultivating awareness of market and economic trends and developments. Develops and executes a process to independently communicate these trends in a concise and effective manner to select stakeholders. Participates in the development of annual financial reports on the state of capital and new venture ecosystem that are distributed to OSU senior leaders and the broader public.  In partnership with the Office of the Treasurer, supports the Economic Development Funds in which Ohio State is a Limited Partner, developing investment memos and other reports, and advising leadership on investments through the Economic Development Funds Investment Committee.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 4 years of relevant experience required.  

Desired Qualifications:

Advanced degree in relevant field preferred. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.


Additional Information:

The pay range for this job profile is $85,000 - $114,000. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on multiple factors including internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
