The Cancer Rehabilitation Research Laboratory Student Research Assistant will help and assist with research data management, in-person and remote (phone/video) study visits, recruitment to our studies, and more! The Research Assistant works under the direct oversight of the SCC Cancer Rehab Science Program/ CRRL Director and Study PI, the Study PI’s Graduate Student, and the CRRL Program Manager.

Duties:

  • Participant Recruitment, Consenting, and Scheduling. Helps to identify, recruit, and schedule patients who may be eligible to participate in the oncology clinical research program.  Aids with the initial assessment to determine study eligibility, including but not limited to taking detailed clinical history or survey, and physical testing according to research protocol and training. Obtains informed consent.  Documents research interactions completely and accurately, on paper or electronically.
  • Data Management, Cleaning, Entry, and Reporting. Responsible for assisting with data management, including completion of patient data forms, entry, and storage in both paper and electronic mediums. Helps to ensure data are accurate and entry is completed in a timely manner. Able to visually identify outliers and perform basic mathematical or statistical manipulations (mean, standard deviation, range) while cleaning data.
  • Study Follow-Up. Helps with the initiation, organization, conduct, and documentation of patient research follow-up as needed.
  • Meeting Attendance. Weekly check-in meetings pertaining to above duties.   
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED AND:

  • Must be currently enrolled at the University of Oklahoma
  • Must attach a class schedule

Preferred Experience: Some experience in research would be preferred.

Certifications or Licenses: BLS Certification

Skills:

  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and reliable
  • Empathetic and interested in serving cancer survivors

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Ability to engage in repetitive motions. Must be able to crouch, crawl, and reach. Will be required to transport or operate research equipment including weights, etc. Must be able to assist in physical spotting while participants complete balance or walking tests.
  • Environmental: Research or laboratory environment.
