Physical Requirements
The physical requirements for this position include regularly sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time with repetitive motion (such as typing); walking including pushing, pulling, and/or lifting up to 10lbs and occasional pushing, pulling, and/or lifting objects up to 50lbs.
Shift
Monday – Friday, Day Shift; 8:00am – 5:00pm (40 hrs/wk).
Job Summary
The Cancer Genetic Counselor at Markey Cancer Center specializes in providing comprehensive genetic counseling services to patients under the supervision of a licensed genetic counselor who have either a personal or family history of cancer or genetic diseases. This role involves coordinating various program services and delivering exceptional customer service while prioritizing safety, patient preferences, and effective communication.
In their daily duties, the counselor performs various critical tasks: they collect, review, and interpret family and medical histories, medical records, test results, and other essential data. They coordinate the testing process and ensure that results are communicated effectively to patients and referring healthcare providers. Additionally, they develop personalized genetic counseling plans that include risk assessments, educational resources, life planning options, and treatment strategies.
The counselor also provides direct counseling and education to patients and their families, facilitates referrals for further testing, treatment, and support, and stays updated with the latest trends and developments in genetic disease research under the supervision of a licensed genetic counselor.

Preferred Education/Experience
Prefer Master’s of Genetic Counseling plus two or more years of related experience in Cancer Genetics. Obtain Genetic Counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling by date of hire preferred.
