Job Description:
The Campus Safety Dispatcher will primarily be responsible to ensure constituent safety and protect campus property; establish and sustain professional relations with emergency responder agencies; help manage the access badge system; assist with the administration of vehicle registration; and handle a variety of administrative tasks. General Schedule Monday - Friday 3pm - 11pm (Subject to change based on operational needs)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receives and relays information for emergencies and services by telephone and two-way radio. Records all information in the daily dispatch CAD.
- Operates within security command center; to include monitoring CCTV systems, access control systems, and fire alarm systems.
- Effectively transmits emergency alerts and monitors emergency services to include; RAVE, Guardly, & Code Blue.
- Participates and assists in disaster planning and drills.
- Effectively monitors campus activity thru various technologies; S2 and ONSSI
- Transmits communications to patrol agents
- Ensures accurate and timely maintenance of the access badge system; generates and distributes badges, activates and deactivates cards when applicable.
- Accounts for and inventories command center dispatch equipment.
- Processes vehicle registration, ensures timely and accurate recordkeeping
- Represents department and the University favorably and in accordance with established Core Values and expectations
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization
- Maintain a Class “A” unarmed commission annually through the Private Officers Licensing Unit, Kansas City Police Department.
- Other administrative tasks (i.e., filing, preparing documentation, equipment inventory)
- Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems
- Actively participates in team and University meetings
Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- Minimum of one (1) year of dispatch and customer service preferred. Security and/or law enforcement experience is a plus.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with Microsoft Office applications
- Prefer formal course work in emergency services dispatching and/or customer service support/dispatch.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact and work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
- Knowledge of various communication systems
- Must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail is a must
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills
Physical Requirements:
- Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead
- Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting
- Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours)
- Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions
