Description

The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.

To coordinate and manage the overall planning direction for the University and to coordinate with design and construction activities and projects for campus wide initiatives, and capital improvement projects.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

* Communicates and coordinates project planning, design and construction activity with University Administration/clients, consultants, and contractors on major capital projects and campus planning projects.

* Prepares project information required for UAB Administration and Board of Trustees including status reports, project summaries, project planning reports, etc.

* Prepares project information required for internal and external review and approval including project planning, code/ordinance compliance, and permitting.

* Assists with the review, management, and implementation of strategic planning and campus

* planning, including Master Plans, Long Range Plans, Design Frameworks, and Design Guidelines.

* Provides high level direction in the early stages of planning/construction/renovation projects,

* including coordination with the campus master plan, development of plans and schedules, reviewing documents, managing construction and commissioning, and resolving conflicts.

* Prepares presentations for, and regularly meets with and presents to: various city and neighborhood architectural/design review boards, councils, and committees for approval of upcoming projects and initiatives.

* Assists the Director in development of design and construction standards and specifications.

* Conducts and participates in meetings with architects, contractors, consultants, schedulers, building users/occupants and others that are related to specific projects.

* Maintains and/or verifies maintenance or project records, databases and related documentation.

* Identifies, researches, and prepares applications for funding for governmental grants for planning projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

* Ability to multi-task

* Possess outstanding written and verbal communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, organizational, assessment and management skills to meet the expected outcomes of the role. Must be detail oriented, take initiative, and have professional accountability.

* Knowledge of business principles involved in each project management and process improvement.

* Demonstrated effective problem solving, analytical, and time management skills.

* Ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, sometimes competing, demands efficiently.

* A high degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

* Ability to use computer-aided design (CAD) programs.

* Experience developing planning strategies from potentially conflicting goals

STARTING ANNUAL RATE OF PAY: $77,640.00 - $125,000.00 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications).



Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Planning or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Graduate degree and three (3) years' experience is an acceptable substitution. Master's degree and Campus Planning is preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:

Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver's license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

PERSONAL: Required to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities that require performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus, standing, climbing stairs, and sitting at computer for long periods of time.
