Job Summary

The BYU Swim Head Coach directs all aspects of the Men's and Women's Swim program.  The head coach will oversee the recruiting, coaching, and general team management of the teams.  The head coach will also research and identify the latest trends in workout designs, including helping swimmers improve their swim skills, maximize their performance, and achieve success in competition. The head coach is expected to lead and mentor individual and collective team members to be athletes of character, strength, and commitment to individual and team goals.

Duties/Expectations:  

Athlete Development/Coaching

  • Attend and conduct regular practice sessions in and out of season, as permitted by NCAA rules and regulations
  • Implement strategies for motivating student-athletes to improve performance at maximum individual and team levels
  • Direct the creation of practice plans, assist in meet preparation, develop strategy, and provide direct coaching and assistance
  • Research and identify the latest trends and techniques in coaching and swimming

Recruiting

  • Research, evaluate, contact and recruit men and women of high character, scholarship, and athletic ability to compete for the BYU Men's and Women's Swim program
  • Market BYU's swim program to prospective recruits, community members, and club members both domestically and internationally
  • Travel extensively to evaluate talent and market the BYU Men's and Women's Swim program to potential recruits

Operations

  • Direct competition scheduling, travel, budget, and general administration
  • Facilitate alumni/donor relationship through donor event management, researching and finding potential donors, and cultivating relationships with current donors to encourage additional donations
  • Facilitate the planning, marketing, and operation of sports camps

What Qualifies You to Apply?

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (Must have required degree by start date)
  • 2 years collegiate swimming experience and/or 2 years club swim coaching experience 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Division I Swim and NCAA rules and regulations
  • Commitment to and compliance with the BYU Honor Code, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend, which may be verified during the application process.

Preferred

  • 4 years Division I and/or 4 years club swim coaching experience
