Position Overview:

Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join the Business Support Services team as a Buyer-Team Lead. This role offers an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a challenging work environment and is passionate about strategic procurement and vendor management. The Buyer-Team Lead will play a pivotal role in sourcing goods, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with procurement procedures to obtain the best value for the university.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives and negotiations to establish a robust vendor base.
  • Conduct market research and track vendor performance to identify capable suppliers.
  • Mentor and coach junior-level buyers to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Provide training on procurement requirements to staff at all levels.
  • Prepare documentation for purchases to ensure compliance with procurement procedures.
  • Administer the Request for Information (RFI), Request for Quote (RFQ), and Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
  • Oversee the entire order process, from initiating purchase orders to processing invoices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field        Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or vendor management.
  • Proven track record of negotiating contracts and obtaining cost savings.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop junior team members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of procurement regulations and best practices.
  • Certification in procurement (e.g., CPSM, CSCP) is a plus.
