Job Description:

The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) at Iowa State University is a national leader in protecting animal and human health, the full service laboratories at the VDL process upwards of 125,000 cases each year and conduct more than 1.6 million tests annually. Fully accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians, the VDL provides quality diagnostic services for animal species, including necropsy, bacteriology, serology, histopathology, virology, parasitology, molecular diagnostics, and toxicology as well as offering analytical services.

The VDL is seeking a qualified candidate for a Business Systems Analyst I. The qualified candidate will work with a variety of Laboratory staff and faculty to assist with the following:

  • Create process and analytics models to assist in end user’s ability to analyze and interpret results.
  • Consistently review data to understand the diagnostic and business structure of the VDL, to reshape and cleanse data, and enhance the end user’s ability to analyze and interpret results.
  • Collaborate with academics, veterinarians, clients and stakeholders to understand their requirements and rapidly transform them into custom-developed prototypes to leverage their feedback and arrive at a final working solution that satisfies the VDL’s data intricacies.
  • Write TSQL queries and procedures to query the database to gather data required for various business objectives.
  • Design, develop and implement data integrations using the Rhapsody Integration Engine.
  • Communicate findings and results effectively to different levels and areas of the business.
  • Assist in the design, development and implementation of desktop and web applications focusing on data reporting to external and internal stakeholders.

• Assists with system development and tests changes for usability, performance, and adherence to standards.
• Prepares statistical summaries and reports.
• Advises management and employees on business systems.
