Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Specialist for the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS).
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides fiscal functions such as accounting, grant accounting, and budgeting to members of the Earth and Planetary Sciences Department.
  • Performs some routine and “out of the ordinary” administrative functions for the department, including facilities and maintenance, purchasing, and policy enforcement.
  • Prepares and analyzes monthly account reconciliations for all department accounts following generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); University policies, and Federal guidelines.
  • Develops and maintains multiple databases, including but not limited to grant, inventory and gift accounts.
  • Prepares purchasing requisitions, journal entries, and payroll requests.
  • An important task: The Business Specialist provides backup to the EPS Administrative Director and EPS Project Coordinators.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance or an equivalent
    combination of education and/or experience will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an academic/research environment or similar experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Must have a solid working knowledge of Excel.
  • Must have excellent communication and organization skills and the ability to attend to multiple demanding priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience demonstrating knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices in an academic research setting.
  • Current driver’s license to attend meetings campus-wide and off-campus.
Equipment Utilized
  • Competency in Excel.
  • Computer literacy in Windows and utilizing applications such as Word, e-mail, and internet browsers.
  • Experience with Rutgers University system applications such as Oracle, HCM, Tableau, and SciQuest/etc.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • The work environment is busy with the activity of students, faculty, and staff.
  • The position manages competing priorities while attending to regular inquiries and problem resolution in a hectic work environment as variable challenges present demands daily.
  • Must have the ability to handle interruptions and re-establish focus on multiple tasks at hand.
