Posting Context Statement
The Twin Falls Research and Extension Center conducts research and extension projects related to agricultural economics, agricultural waste management, rangelands, weed science and minor use pesticide development.
Collaborative relationships with numerous partners result in a vast array of innovative educational programs. Major research and Extension programs are conducted on agriculture, natural resources, youth, economics and environmental issues.
Position Overview
Responsible for providing complex technical support for daily financial operations by performing a variety of tasks following policies and procedures. In addition to processing a variety of financial transactions and maintaining records, the position compiles data and generates routine and ad hoc financial reports.
Duties may include:
  • Purchasing identified goods and services
  • Submitting invoices and receipts for payment
  • Accepting and recording payments
  • Reconciling purchasing card statements
  • Processing travel claims and reimbursements
  • Tracking transactions through completion in the centralized financial system
  • Filing and maintaining unit-level finance documents
  • Originating personnel actions and processing corrections to pay in the centralized financial system
  • Developing, compiling, and summarizing data for routine reports and ad hoc financial management reports
  • Researching and correcting discrepancies or errors
  • Providing assistance to departments on questions related to invoices, receipts, financial reports and other transactions
  • Researching, analyzing, and making recommendations for management decision making
  • Serving as departmental grant administrator, assisting principal investigator with pre- and post-award financial activities. May participate in budget development and compilation and submission of proposals and project reports

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • Three years providing financial processing support within an electronic finance system.
  • Using spreadsheet software to compile, summarize, analyze, and report on financial data.
  • Interpreting and applying financial stewardship policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Required Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Other
Additional Preferred
  • Over 3 years of related work experience.
  • Three years of progressively responsible job experience and extensive knowledge of the Extension System, College of Agricultural & Life Sciences, the University of Idaho, the State of Idaho, and Idaho agriculture.
  • Knowledge of office and computer hardware and software including spreadsheets, graphics and word processing to include familiarity with Banner, Windows, Word, Excel, and Quicken.
  • Knowledge of fiscal recordkeeping procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure; willingness to work additional hours; and to take on any assignment and complete it in a quality manner.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of organization and the ability to make decisions based on a thorough understanding of the Center goals and priorities.
  • Ability to be a quick starter and accomplish assigned duties with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Experience preparing business correspondence; compiling information and developing reports and recommendations for management; planning, organizing and implementing special projects.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to effectively handle complaints or problems and deal with dissatisfied individuals; strong writing, editing and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to handle sensitive and confidential material.
  • Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations to daily work.
