Job Description

The College of Integrative Sciences and Arts is seeking a Business Operations Specialist Senior - Department Human Resources, to join our team. As a Business Operations Specialist Senior – Human Resources, you will work closely with the HR Team, faculty heads and leadership to understand the human resources needs in supporting the life cycle of the college employee base. 

This position will report to the Director of Human Resources in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts. This position may be based at the Downtown Phoenix Campus or Polytechnic Campus and is a full-time, benefits-eligible position and may require travel to other ASU campuses. ASU does not pay candidates for travel expenses associated with interviewing unless indicated by the department at the time of call for interview.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinates the search and hiring process for all employee hiring in assigned CISA units.
  • Works with hiring supervisor and committees to facilitate the search process using established guidelines and processes.
  • Prepares documentation associated with and necessary for hiring of employees or documentation of changes in positions including I-9 verification.
  • Manages payroll for assigned CISA units to ensure accuracy of payroll information, including position and funding changes.
  • Maintains and reconciles biweekly payroll.
  • Manages Department Time Administrator (DTA) for assigned units to ensure accurate and timely recording of exceptions and time reporting.
  • Assists with academic personnel actions.
  • Acts as the main point for all general HR questions at unit level.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND five (5) years of related experience; OR, Nine (9) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources practices, regulations and standards.
  • Experience in processing ASU payroll transactions.
  • Experience working in Human Resources in a higher education environment.
  • Experience using: BrassRing, Interfolio, PeopleSoft Human Resources, Time and Attendance System (TAS), Microsoft Office, Dropbox and Adobe Sign.
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive/confidential information pertaining to payroll, employee issues.
  • Evidence of having a passion for innovative Human Resources solutions and process improvements.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
  • This position receives regular review of objectives by Department Administrator.

Hybrid work is an option for CISA employees. Hybrid arrangements are where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location. Dean or Provost level approval is required.
