Job Description

The department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise (https://www.hnfe.vt.edu/) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences invites applicants for a part-time (1500 hrs./year) wage position. This position will serve as an assistant to the Assistant Director for Business Operations. Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with the processing of orders the Virginia Tech procurement systems, including HokieMart; assisting with travel authorization preapproval and various expense reporting through ChromeRiver; addressing routine and non-routine fiscal issues; maintaining financial records and processing transactions for a number of funds and accounts (VT and VTF), and other general operational supports to the department.


Required Qualifications

Experience supporting the internal day-to-day operations of a professional office environment; Demonstrated experience maintaining and reconciling multiple funds and accounts; Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, executing follow-through to completion with strict attention to detail; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision yet function collaboratively as a member of a dynamic team; Basic proficiency in Microsoft office software; including Excel.


Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, ask important questions, and communicate any concerns and challenges in a timely manner; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, using sound judgment, initiative, and discretion; Demonstrated customer service experience working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds; Exceptional organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills; Demonstrated proficiency using various types of software, including word processing, spreadsheets, calendaring, and email; managing information on shared servers; and using the internet for research/information gathering; Prior experience with Microsoft products including SharePoint, Forms, and Teams; Knowledge of Virginia Tech’s Procurement, Accounts Payable, and Office of the Controller, and Office of the Bursar processes and procedures; Prior experience using Banner, HokieMart/eVa, Chrome River, and Microstrategy, and/or similar fiscal and business operations systems; Prior experience working in an educational environment with a diverse group of students, educators, staff, and community members

Commensurate with experience within budget maximum ($17.53-$24.00/hr.)
