Business Manager for the Graduate School
The Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications and nominations for the position of Business Manager. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Business Manager is a twelve-month, exempt level position that serves as the primary advisor to the Dean, Associate Dean, and Director of Graduate Admissions in all fiscal and compliance matters. This individual is responsible for ensuring that fiscal and HR policies and procedures are followed in all Graduate School functions. The Business Manager oversees all accounts linked to the Graduate School and interacts with individuals internal and external to the university on the administration of these accounts. The Business Manager provides data and data analysis to the Dean so that responsible decisions can be made related to use of resources. The Business Manager works with the Office Manager to oversee the human resources functions within the Graduate School.
The Business Manager will also manage and reconcile all accounts, including overseeing of training, account reconciliation and documentation of procedures of all ledgers. The Business Manager will also prepare annual budgets and manage contracts linked to the Graduate School, in addition to managing Fellowship accounts. The Business Manager will work closely with colleges and departments and the Office of Finance and Administration, to manage and reconcile centralized fee waivers.
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Three or more years of direct oversight of budgets.
• Experience with high-level fiscal planning and administration of grants and contracts.
• Knowledge of ethical accounting principles and business practices.
• In-depth knowledge of fiscal and human resources policies.
• Thorough knowledge of business management software (e.g., SAP/IRIS).
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to interact across organizational boundaries to resolve fiscal/resource issues.
• Proficiency with computer tools such as Excel, Word, and other software needed for accounting purposes.
• Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Ability to prioritize and make decisions in a highly dynamic environment.
• Commitment to serving a diverse student body.
• Ability and willingness to collaborate with individuals inside (departments, colleges, central offices, etc.) and outside (e.g., granting agencies) of the institution on issues related to resources.
• Ability to provide work direction to individuals working with accounts linked to the Graduate School.
PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: the successful candidate will also have:
• Five or more years of direct oversight of budgets in a higher education setting.
• Extensive experience with high-level fiscal planning and primary administration of grants and contracts.
• Thorough knowledge of SAP/IRIS, Banner, Cayuse, NSF FastLane, and ARGOS.
