Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Manager III – Supervisor for the  School of Social Work. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Business Services, the Business Manager III provides business acumen, grant administration and accounting expertise in performing business management functions for the School of Social Work. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides independent accounting and budgeting support to Directors, Principal Investigators, and Faculty with proposal budget development, provides guidance and counsel regarding various funding agency guidelines and requirements. 
  • Supports PI’s regarding grant expenditures, ensuring proper budgeting, and will assist PI’s and the Research Services team with preparing budgets as needed
  • Oversees and manages salary reallocations to grants and ensures reconciliation of allocations to accounts.
  • Monitors expenses against projects, providing proactive guidance to PI’s, research, and business staff to ensure proper expenditures and no overdrafts. 
  • Manages effort reporting process, working with the Business Services team and PI’s to ensure certification effort, processes salary funding adjustments as needed, and timely ECRT certifications.
  • Prepares for grant account closeouts, working with PI’s and business staff to identify and process costs transfers, salary reallocations as needed and appropriate within the stated University and sponsor guidelines. 
  • Business Services is responsible for all financial planning, budget development, business plans, and implementation of procedures and policies for the effective sponsored project management of the School.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices. 
  • A minimum of five years of relevant grant administration profession experience in a financial/accounting function particularly in the area of grant management.

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and a professional/courteous manner when working with both internal and external constituents.  
  • Excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.  
  • Demonstrated analytical skills that allow for interpretation of budgetary, financial, and related management information.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience using spreadsheet, charting, and other software tools, such as Microsoft Word, Excel (pivot tables), Access, PowerPoint, Tableau.  
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and clearly articulate analytical results and findings to a diverse set of people with varying skill sets.
  • The ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially with regards to sensitive or confidential financial or organizational matters.
  • The ability to respond flexibly and positively in all circumstances, and to work calmly under pressure. 
  • The ability to interact and work effectively with diverse people and a wide range of stakeholders, including but not limited to, Faculty, Administrators, Research Staff, University Officers and any additional key points of contact.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience in a University environment preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Rutgers University sponsored project and accounting procedures strongly preferred. 
  • Experience using applications such as RAPSS, Oracle FMS, ECRT, Marketplace, PeopleSoft HCM or similar systems.
