The School of Communication and Information (SC&I) on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus houses a dynamic community of scholars who conduct engaged research and teach in the areas of communication, information science, media studies, information technology, journalism, librarianship, organizational and health communication, public relations, and other professional practice areas. SC&I has about 2,500 enrolled students and teaches thousands of other Rutgers students in our five undergraduate programs, two master’s degrees, interdisciplinary doctoral program, and non-degree continuing education programs. Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Manager II, Supervisor for the Dean’s Office within the School of Communication and Information. This position is responsible for the daily operations of the financial and and procurement activities of the school, including finance, pre- and post-award grant accounting, and purchasing.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Oversees the administration of salary and non-salary components of all accounts, including state-budgeted, designated, restricted, endowed, and grant accounts, for SC&I departments, centers, programs, faculty, and all functional staff areas.
  • Analyzes and reviews financial data.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to SC&I department chairs, program and center directors, and business staff in managing and resolving financial issues, consistent with understanding of the mission and vision of the university and of SC&I.
  • Interprets, develops, communicates, and implements policies and procedures.
  • Manages fiscal compliance; understands and enforces applicable state, federal, grant, and university regulations and policies.
  • Ensures security of funds received and disbursed by implementing auditing procedures for the creation of accounts and processing of financial transactions.
  • Performs professional work consistent with a comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of accounting.
  • Provides recommendations to the Director of Business and Administration and school administrators regarding systems, best practices, and problem resolution that rises to the level of the University administration.
  • Serves as representative to campus financial and business committees.
  • Ensures the integration of SC&I departmental and school-level business activities with corresponding functions at the university.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting/business function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Certain positions may require specific education, certification or licensure, an advanced degree with equivalent experience, or expertise in a specialty area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience in a University environment.
  • Knowledge of Tableau or other data analytics/data visualization tools.
  • Experience using software such as Hyperion Financial Management, Oracle General Ledger Tableau, Marketplace, PeopleSoft HCM, Smart Sheets, or similar systems.
