JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   Under the direction of the Executive Assistant Dean of Finance, Operations and Strategic Initiatives, the Business Manager manages the day-to-day monitoring, analyzing, and reporting of fiscal and human resource commitments in the College of Health Professions (CoHP). Key areas of responsibility include post award grant/contract management, faculty/staff recruitment, and budget administration.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs fiscal management and administrative functions of post award activities from award to close-out for federal, state, local, or private research grants and contracts.
  • Reviews incoming awards, advises on allowable uses of grant funds, and analyzes issues of cost appropriateness to ensure sponsored program funding is allocated and spent in accordance with all applicable guidelines.
  • Responds to all financial inquiries from PI, Sponsored Programs, and outside entities; completes accurate and timely budget modifications and required annual reconciliation reports.
  • Monitors expenses incurred are well within approved budget and follows grants terms and conditions, donor regulation and policy and procedures.
  • Oversees and coordinates all human resources administrative procedures and documentation processes.
  • Coordinates and finalizes annual equipment inventory and facility space inventory.
  • Reviews monthly department budgets and general ledger reconciliations; distributes expenses to state/restricted accounts as appropriate.
  • Oversees the supervision of personnel; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Acts as liaison with all departmental and college administrative offices and constituencies on/off campus to resolve issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

    EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

    EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of progressively higher professional accounting/financial experience OR a Master’s Degree and three (3) years of experience. 

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral) with executives, faculty, vendors, and staff.
    • Knowledge of general accounting principles and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects to establish priorities to meet deadlines.
    • Excellent attention to detail and skills to evaluate processes and ensure accurate, timely reporting.
    • Advanced knowledge of and proficiency using Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality on financial and personnel matters.
    • Ability to interact with diverse populations.

    WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally work evenings and weekends, with occasional travel.
