JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


The Office of Planning, Assessment, and Institutional Research (OPAIR) at Penn State seeks to hire a highly motivated and skilled Business Intelligence Specialist who is eager to work alongside end-users as part of the Data Modeling team to build an infrastructure that transforms Penn State data into insights for Penn State decision makers. The position has a key role in the development of analytical data ecosystem for the Penn State community and is critical in supporting migration of existing enterprise reporting platform from OBIEE (Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition) to OAC (Oracle Analytics Cloud). The position will also help to define and implement systems and processes that provide broader access to OPAIR-curated data for the University community.

 

The Data Modeling team is focused on data and metadata modeling, leads efforts related to data standardization and helps to maintain principal OPAIR curated datasets. The team supports enterprise analytical tools (OBIEE/OAC, Power BI) and reports maintained by OPAIR. It also contributes to the development and validation of new data models, subject areas, and reports.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate reporting platform migration from OBIEE to OAC

  • Assist Data Modeling director with defining and implementing processes that provide broader access to OPAIR-curated data, and supervising work on the projects

  • Serves as data modeling team lead in the absence of the director

  • Collaborate with university data stewards and end users, analyze and evaluate their requirements, develop and implement appropriate data and reporting solutions

  • Serve as a resource for co-workers in areas of specialized knowledge, including system deployment, data security, data analysis, data modeling and reporting

  • Support analytical tools (OAC, Power BI), data and reports maintained by OPAIR

 

Required Experience

  • Expertise with OAC and Power BI

  • Advanced knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of data modeling and developing multidimensional data models

  • Experience with implementation of reporting tools on enterprise level

  • Experience with developing data models for enterprise reporting applications, such as Power BI, OAC, OBIEE or similar

  • Experience with data architecture principles, practices, tools, and concepts such as data quality, master data management, data lineage, metadata management, and data governance

  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications

  • T-SQL, PL/SQL, Power Query M, DAX

  • Knowledge of how business processes and systems affect data quality

  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence, data storytelling, visualization concepts

  • Hands-on experience coding and designing new reports, maintaining, and enhancing existing reports, and designing dashboards on scalable business intelligence platforms

  • Hands-on experience testing and validating data used in reports or other analyses

  • Ability to work independently

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an ability to communicate technical concepts effectively with others at all levels of technical proficiency

 

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with OBIEE

  • R, Python, or other programming languages

  • Experience with using or creating automated test scripts

 

Education and Experience

This position will be filled as a senior professional level, typically requiring a Bachelor's Degree, and 6 years of related experience, including 1+ years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's Degree is preferred.

The location of this position is flexible and can operate fully remote within the United States, fully in-person at our University Park Campus, or in a hybrid model of both in-person and remote. Standard working hours are in the eastern time zone.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$76,700.00 - $129,500.00
