Job Description

The Finance Applications team supports the complex and highly regulated financial operations of the university. With a strong focus on technology, efficiency, and collaboration the Finance Applications team is a vital leader in the continued evolution of administrative operations to best support Virginia Tech’s world class faculty and students.  Join the Finance Applications team and be a part of the evolution!

As a Business Intelligence Developer, you will:
• Analyze business needs and create mission critical operational reporting solutions that meet or exceed the needs of the business users.
• Contribute to the architecture of different reporting solutions, as well as provide support for other reporting tools.
• Support both business and technical users in their development of reports.
• Communicate with project managers, developers, and end users to analyze business needs, design cohesive reporting solutions, and ensure effective collaboration.
• Analyze user enhancement requests to include identifying potential problem areas and recommend optimum solution approaches.
• Perform report testing and provide support for user acceptance testing of new reporting solutions.
• Handle multiple assignments simultaneously and collaborate with colleagues.
• Instruct, guide, and check the work of other technical personnel and perform quality assurance review.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree, or Bachelor's degree in technology, Computer Science, Business Information Technology, or related field and/or an equivalent level of training and experience.
• Advanced skills in Business Intelligence tools such as MicroStrategy, Tableau or Qlik.
• Demonstrated experience in relational databases and proficient at SQL.
• Excellent at working effectively in a team environment.
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills with both technical and business users.

Preferred Qualifications

• A commitment to best practices with ability to define operational processes, deployment checklists, documentation and more.
• Advanced experience in developing complex reports, metrics and OLAP cubes within MicroStrategy and Tableau.
• Experience with business processes, applications, and reporting supporting Higher Education.
• Experience with business processes, applications, and reporting supporting financial operations.
• Experience working with Ellucian Banner modules.
• Understanding of data warehouse concepts.
• Strong, self-motivated desire to learn and apply new ideas and technologies to meet ever-evolving use cases under minimal supervision.

Salary range of $85,000-$110,000
