The Business Intelligence & Analytics team provides solutions for presenting and distributing academic and administrative data from myriad sources related to the Biological Sciences Division of the University of Chicago.

Job Summary:

Business Intelligence & Analytics, Specialists for Chicago, IL location. Develop and implement analytic programs and support the use of analytic platforms and administrative data across the University. Review administrative data for joint analyses across multiple domains. Partner with functional stewards, business units, and user partners to develop reporting and analytic solutions with appropriate data governance and secure access. Design, develop and implement Business Intelligence (BI) and other analytical applications, ETL and data warehouse. Guides requirements analysis, translating requirements into a scope document and developing reporting deliverables based on design. Plan, test and guide roll-out of patches and upgrades to the BI and analytic software. Perform dimensional data modeling and build, implement and maintain data dictionary, data cubes and data marts. Technology environment: Power BI; Tableau; SSRS; SSIS; Azure DevOps; MS PowerBuilder.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an enterprise-level data dictionary.
  • Designs, creates, and supports dimensional data models for academic.
  • Administrative, and clinical functions.
  • Gather vet data definitions for new solution implementation.
  • Ensures security and compliance.
  • Implement changes that lead to continuous improvement in customer service.

Competencies:

  • Applicant should be proficient in Microsoft SQL, business analytics and reporting tools such as Power BI and Tableau, and ETL tools such as Microsoft Integration Services.
  • Applicant will be familiar with data warehousing concepts, such as Kimballs' techniques regarding dimensional modeling.


Additional Requirements ​​
 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field plus 5 years of progressive experience in the job offered or in analytics/ETL/BI

Experience:

  • 3 years with each: Design and implement of ETL and Data warehouse
  • Dimensional data modeling; Build and implement data dictionary & data marts
  • PowerBI/Tableau/Crystal Reports; Reporting tools (SSRS/SAP Bus Obj)
  • ETL Tools (SSIS/Informatica)
  • Data warehouse design and implementation.
  • ETL design and implementation.
  • Dimensional data modeling.
