Organization: The Office of Research the Proposal Development Office (PDO) supports Ohio State’s strategy development and proposal development for large-scale funding initiatives. The PDO will lead the development of collaborative, team-focused proposals to increase the university’s research funding portfolio.
Opportunity: The Ohio State University is seeking an experienced, self-motivated and resourceful research development and proposal development professional with knowledge of federal procurement activities. The Research Development Specialist requires a proactive individual to coordinate proposal development support for strategic, high-value proposals related to health, wellness, and public health initiatives across the university. The Research Development Specialist will lead the development of collaborative, team-focused research and educational proposals, with an emphasis on the health and wellness sector. This position will also provide strategic research development support to faculty teams within the Infectious Disease Institute (IDI). The Research Development Specialist will work closely with IDI leadership, the university’s research development professionals and college deans to target opportunities and develop strategic proposals that effectively address federal agency, foundation and industry needs. This position will support pre- award activities, including assisting in identifying funding opportunities, supporting capture planning efforts, and coordinating development and preparation of grant proposals. The Research Development Specialist will serve as a resource for best practices and for the competitive procurement process. This person will report directly to the Associate Vice President and Director of the PDO and will be assigned to work in partnership with the IDI leadership team and faculty across multiple colleges. The Research Development Specialist also will coordinate with university research developers to stay abreast of upcoming strategic, high-visibility opportunities.

Bachelor’s degree in communication, business, or technical field related to health, public health, or social science; minimum of five years of experience successfully supporting proposal development; intellectual curiosity and demonstrated ability to work with subject matter experts to gain in-depth understanding of scientific and technical issues; proven ability to thrive and work well under pressure and effectively manage stress of deadlines; strong sense of customer service, collaboration, and relationship management; excellent writing and communication skills; experience with all Microsoft Office programs.
Knowledge of federal health and wellness sponsor funding priorities and procurement process particularly that associated with the National Institutes of Health and Department of Defense; experience working in university research environment; experience in a related scientific discipline. Master’s degree or Ph.D. in public health, microbiology, or other health-related field.
