Position Description

Working within the Office of Technology Development (OTD) at the Harvard Medical School office, under the guidance and supervision of the Executive Director, Harvard Medical School. The position will be responsible for assisting the DBDs in managing a portfolio of time-sensitive projects in the area of medical/biological science and providing support and reporting to the DBDs and other staff as may be required. Duties also include reviewing of invention disclosures arising from research conducted by Harvard Medical School (HMS) faculty; assessing commercial potential of HMS technologies; preparing and drafting technology profiles in order to market biomedical/pharmaceutical technologies; assessing the competitive environment with respect to HMS technologies; performing due diligence and market research with a view toward identifying potential licensees and industrial partners for HMS technologies; performing due diligence with respect to potential licensees and industrial partners; developing innovative strategies for the development and commercialization of HMS technologies: assisting DBDs in managing outside patent counsel in preparation and prosecution of patent applications; working closely with OTD’s Technology Transactions team in the general execution of agreements; negotiating options, confidentiality, and inter-institutional agreements, and - with time - industry-sponsored research, non-exclusive licenses and collaboration agreements. The position will also interact with peer institutions and other academic institutions, as well as representatives from industry, as appropriate. Other duties as needed.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a 3 - year term appointment.


Basic Qualifications

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:
BA/BS degree in Biomedical Sciences required, plus one to two years of scientific training and/or experience in technology transfer and intellectual property either in industry or academia. A general understanding of intellectual property, business acumen, legal agreements, and client relationship building is required.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

Ph.D. or advanced degree in Biomedical Sciences preferred, or BA/BS with an MBA; Startup experience a plus. Preference is given to those with experience in developing, marketing, and commercialization of technologies as well as experience with reading complex and sensitive sponsored research and license agreements Strong interpersonal and communication skills; adept with information gathering, database management, and ability to prioritize tasks. Ability to select, set, and meet appropriate goals from among competing demands and work independently within a team environment. Ability to produce polished written documents demonstrated analytical skills and creative problem-solver.
