The Opportunity:

As the Business Data Analyst, you are responsible for the planning, project management, maintenance, development, testing, and modification of Carson College of Business (CCB) analytics, reports, and data integration using WSU enterprise-wide data systems such as Oracle and Microsoft. You will create and maintain systems, processes, and procedures for data management and reporting across the CCB Activities including analysis, design, construction, coding, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and deployment. You will provide SQL, Oracle, and custom report building, process improvements, system knowledge, project management, and other services in support of improving data and technology operations for CCB. Systems include those that are used in business applications, including the acquisition, storage, retrieval, reporting, and migration of data. You will also apply analytical processes to the planning, design, and implementation of new IT systems to meet the college’s requirements and improvement of current data management and business processes. You will serve as the academic data liaison with internal and external constituencies.
 

You will also build data visualizations and conduct data analysis to support CCB's business operations and academic affairs. You will provide leadership with key performance metrics, train staff on WSU systems and data reporting, and conduct routine and custom analysis for accreditation, academic affairs, and business metrics. Your position supports scheduled teaching, student, academic, and other operational data found within and external to WSU systems.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND three (3) years of professional experience in business data analysis or related; OR a combination of education and experience totaling seven (7) years from which comparable knowledge and ability are acquired.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other quantitative fields.

  • Experience with Oracle, Microsoft, or open source database development and administration.

  • Strong skills in using and applying Microsoft products for data management, analysis, and visualization.

  • Demonstrated ability to use technical skills to analyze, research, and report on a variety of different types of information.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with varying deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.A. or M.S. degree in a related field or MBA degree.

  • Four (4) or more years in a data analyst or another quantitative research position.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use advanced statistical software packages such as SQL, R, Python, or SAS.

  • Knowledge of student database architecture, especially student record systems and WSU-specific database systems (e.g., OBIEE).

  • Experience dealing with and understanding the nuances of academic programs.

  • Experience with third party data integration and AWS or Azure data management services.

Monthly Salary: $4,942.10 - $6,666.66 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
