Student Affairs Finance provides financial support to the departments within the Division of Student Affairs. This position will work specifically in the Student Activities. What we want

The position of Business Coordinator I is responsible for working with recognized student organizations representatives regarding their financial operations.  This position also serves as the trainer for the cashier area. The Business Coordinator I provides excellent customer service to over 1400 recognized student organizations, their leaders and advisors while monitoring compliance within all processes and procedures as mandated by Federal, State, and University policies and procedures. 

What you need to know

Salary: $38,000 -$41,000 based on education and experience.

Position Details: Ability to work evenings and periodic weekends as needed.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of related experience in general office, accounting, or personnel operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Planning and organizational skills.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or other business related field.

  • Two years bank teller or retail cashier experience including experience in any of the specific software programs or databases used in that area.

  • Two years of related experience in general office, accounting, or personnel operations.

Essential Duties/Tasks

Payment Processing

  • Coordinates and analyzes payment request forms to meet acceptable audit standards in a functional area that handles over 20,000 payment requests each fiscal year.

  • This includes verifying organization recognition status, mitigating fraud by verifying signature authority for student organization advisors and student leaders, and examining backup documentation as well as posting transactions to FAMIS or processing as appropriate.

  • Oversees and ensures that vendor files are up to date by obtaining forms as required.

Deposits

  • Analyzes and verifies organization deposits received according to TAMU cash handling procedures and segregation of duties contributing to the office totals of between 40 and 50,000 revenue transactions averaging a total of $13 million each fiscal year. 

  • Posts deposits and corrections to iPayment. 

  • Reconciles cash and checks under dual control to prepare daily bank deposit.

Customer Service

  • Coordinates the cashier area records according to university retention schedule. 

  • Maintains communication with the contracted courier service. 

  • Receives various SOFC-related documents and oversees the files accordingly. 

  • Responds to questions and requests from student organization representatives, vendors, and other departments on campus.

Advising – Financial Policies & Procedures

  • Serves as primary reference for guidance on financial matters related to student organization finances.

  • Advises and trains student organization leaders and advisors on SOFC and TAMU policies and procedures.

  • Provides assistance to and education for students concerning student organization accounts and financial transactions.

Training

  • Trains and educates student assistants and other team members in cash handling procedures, lobby operations, and new and existing business procedures.

  • Provides indirect supervision to SOFC student assistant team regarding compliance to document processing policies and procedures.
