The Business Analyst for the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System Implementation is responsible for assisting the Laboratory in the implementation of the Oracle Fusion ERP Cloud.
This position will serve as the internal functional module lead and the primary business process expert directly responsible for assisting the system implementers (subcontracted implementation team) with the design and implementation of Oracle Fusion Project Management modules, which includes Project Management, Grants Management, Project Financial and Contract Billing, and Project Budget Planning.


The Senior Business Analyst will advise project management in decision making, redesign business processes, oversee the configuration/development/enhancement of the system, and support user acceptance testing and user training.

 

**This is a 2-year TERM position at this time. Position does offer benefits.

 

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.



  • Gathers, reviews, analyzes, and evaluates user needs. Provides input in planning the system design effort for the project.
  • Assists with business process re-engineering, financial data structure redesign and related business rule updates to enable an efficient implementation and adoption of best practices for the functional areas of Project/Grant Management, Project Financials and Billing, and Labor Distribution.
  • Coordinates, prepares and participates in Fit/Gap, Design and Prototyping, and Conference Room Pilot (CRP) sessions as assigned by Functional Team Lead.
  • Reviews the results of Fit/Gap, Design and Prototyping, and CRP sessions for completeness and user acceptance.
  • Provides support/guidance to the subject matter experts in design, testing and training.
  • Communicates to the Functional Team Lead any issues needing to be resolved as a result of Fit/Gap, Design and Prototyping and CRP sessions.
  • Assists the Project Manager and Functional Team Lead to identify and coordinate work dependencies.
  • Coordinates ERP application setup by participating in establishing table set-up; assists with configuration of the system; assists with data mapping and manual data conversion of the Project Management modules.
  • Assists with business requirements documents, system configuration documents, and detailed functional specification documents, as assigned by the Functional Team Lead.
  • Analyzes GL data to ensure proper recording of the project costs, including those generated from the system transactions such as burden calculation and allocation.
  • Reviews functional design specifications prepared by the consultants.
  • Serves as a change agent in all interactions with project team and all Lab employees to ensure end users are apprised of system and process changes, including identifying training and support requirements.
  • Manages user expectations and requirements scope; document requirement changes and raises scope change requests.
  • Contributes to the development of test cases, user guides, reference manuals, training materials and code release artifacts as appropriate.
  • Reviews test cases and test results with the business and technical teams.
  • Works with Project Managers to ensure compliance to System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and PPPL PMO requirements.
  • Evaluates and communicates impact of changes to other modules.
  • Reviews and provides updates to project schedules for the respective project area of responsibility.
  • Reports progress on milestones, dependencies, and critical path items to the project Functional Team Lead as the central point of contact for the function's decision-making activities.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Information Systems or other related field required.
  • Minimum of five years of related project experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience in Tier 1 ERP (financial and supply chain management system) implementation projects
  • 3+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst or Subject Matter Expert (SME) in projects, financials, and labor distribution.
  • 3+ years’ experience in data analytics related to the financial and project management systems

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Oracle ERP is preferred
  • Working Experience with Government Subcontractors, DOE laboratories or higher education.
  • Experience using the following Oracle Fusion ERP Cloud or Oracle EBS/PeopleSoft modules: Project Management; Project Financials or Project Costing; Grants Management; Budget Planning; or Project Contract Billing.
  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience in process mapping and workflow
  • Working knowledge of Oracle PPM Cloud configuration, preferably in the Project Costing, Grants Management or Project Budget Planning modules/functional areas
  • Experience in reading and understanding Federal/State/ local grant contracts.
  • Experience effectively managing multiple, competing priorities with high attention to detail
