Business Analyst
Job Description
The W. P. Carey, Technology Strategy and Operations (TSO) team is a unique collective of analysts and technologists whose purpose is to advance EduTech for the School in partnership with faculty, researchers, staff and our enterprise partners throughout ASU. The TSO team plays a key role in proactively furthering the academic, research, and community missions of ASU.
As a member of the Business Analyst team, the Business Analyst facilitates and manages technology projects throughout the School. The successful candidate is comfortable in a high-touch academic environment working directly with faculty, students and staff to understand the complement of business need to technical solution. They demonstrate deep analytical capabilities along with a refined ability to articulate complex analyses to varied audiences. The successful candidate will have shown discipline in documenting project work using a CRM and project management tools. As a contributing member of the Future Student and External Relations product teams, which will primarily work on projects such as reporting and dashboards, website updates, and Salesforce updates in conjunction with the Enterprise Salesforce team.

Essential Duties
The Future Student Product Team is responsible for efforts that are focused on student recruitment, admission, and enrollment. The scope of this team includes the management or knowledge of different transactional systems such as Salesforce Sales Cloud, Salesforce Marketing Cloud. The team is also responsible for understanding the reporting needs and tools associated with the data in these transactional tools.
The External Relations Product Team is responsible for efforts that are focused on support and development of materials and communications to external stakeholders and analytics that are used by the leadership for decision making.
Within these two product teams the successful candidate:
- Plans, develops, implements, and manages a project team through complete task definitions and work requirement identification and assignments
- Works closely and collaboratively with key stakeholders to define project scope, strategy, budget, and outcomes; identifies critical resource expertise and targets appropriate internal and/or external sources to ensure optimal outcome(s)
- Establishes and continually monitors/manages project expectations with team; assigns tasks and identifies issues for resolution to ensure optimal team effectiveness
- Prepares and maintains all project status reports and schedules; tracks milestones/deliverables, critical paths and dependencies; re-sets expectations as needed in consideration of project progress/outcomes
- Responds to all inquiries regarding project status; prepares and responds to all regulatory reporting/filings to ensure compliance
- Manages, coaches, and supervises all project team members both internal and contracted to ensure optimal outcomes; builds, develops, and maintains relationships vital to project success
- Works collaboratively with stakeholders, leadership, and other related staff to define and identify all required project infrastructure including, but not limited to: space, build/reconfiguration of facilities, equipment, technology and infrastructure to ensure timely availability for successful launch and ongoing project operations
- Prepares all post-project reports, budget allocations and summaries/filings to ensure timely dissemination of information to all interested parties
- Acts to mitigate conflict; escalates serious project issues
- Effectively communicates relevant project information in a professional manner to the business and technical personnel
- Contributes in development and implementation of program and portfolio management, project management methods tools and techniques, and performance
- Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with multiple stakeholders within project scope
- Reviews and ensures that project specifications comply with existing codes and applicable University, state and local requirements
- Defines project objectives and scope to determine time frame, available funding, resources, procedures, and various phases of project life cycle
- Evaluates business processes, anticipates requirements, uncovers areas for improvement, and develops plans to implement solutions
- Stays up-to-date on the latest process and IT advancements internal and external to ASU to automate and modernize systems
- Performs testing of solutions delivered by the project team and document results
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years of experience in procedural, management or systems analysis work; OR, Six (6) years of experience in procedural, management, or systems analysis work; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/ or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

- Experience and discipline with JIRA and Confluence or other project management software
- Demonstrated knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Systems such as Salesforce
- Demonstrated knowledge of tools used for reporting such as Tableau, Alteryx, Dash, and PowerBI
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer programming languages such as SQL
- Demonstrated knowledge of web development concepts and platforms such as Drupal
- Experience in Business Process Mapping Techniques and software used to document
- Experience working with SAS (Software as a Service) products for monthly updates and managing a vendor relationship
- Experience in all Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, and Outlook
- Evidence of planning, organizational, and time management skills
- Demonstrated track record of leading complex successful projects from initiation to completion
- Experience in analytical and conceptual thinking skills
- Experience developing strategies and business requirement specifications for projects, ability to manage complex technology projects
- Experience in clarifying roles and responsibilities to ensure understanding of expectations with all project team members
- Demonstrated knowledge of organizational development and practices to identify opportunities for change and convey the need for change
- Demonstrated knowledge of standard project management and change management practices
Working Environment
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
