Job Description

Reviews, analyzes, implements, and evaluates business systems and user needs for new and existing curriculum technology tools to serve student and advising audiences. Serves as the liaison between the stakeholders and the technology team. To devise new solutions, business analysts interview users and leaders to determine requirements, work with developers to formalize specifications, design quality assurance procedures, and advocate for users as they track projects to completion. For existing processes and technologies, business analysts support end users through on-boarding, training, troubleshooting, and managing enhancements to meet users’ changing needs.
The key focus area will be the development of learner-facing, personalized degree planning tools which optimize prospective and current students' use of ASU native and transfer credits towards degrees at ASU. To be successful in this role, applicants must be able to work independently, adept at organizing complex projects, highly analytical, effective communicators, and enthusiastic problem solvers who are deeply committed to developing pathways for students to obtain post-secondary education.

Salary Range

$53,700 - $65,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Performs research analysis to understand current performance, analyze trends, and assists in making recommendations for curriculum technology tools (u.Achieve, u.Direct, Build a Major Map, Kuali, eAdvisor etc.)
  • Utilizes data warehouse and reporting queries to extract and analyze relevant data for the purposes of informing curricular decisions, external and internal reporting and other student success strategies
  • Consults with front-line staff, managers and leaders to understand business needs for new processes or process improvements; conducts requirements gathering and solution design to meet those needs
  • Documents user requirements using interviews, surveys, user observation, use cases, and user stories
  • Supports end users with on-boarding, training, and troubleshooting as needed
  • Serves as a liaison between functional/user teams and IT teams
  • Writes business process documentation
  • Coordinates with development teams to ensure technical specifications achieve functional requirements to meet user needs
  • Consults with subject matter experts to coordinate security design and devise appropriate user roles
  • Devises and executes test plans for quality assurance
  • May query and analyze data to create documentation and make recommendations for data preservation, integration and governance protocols
  • Manages projects as needed, monitoring implementation plans and project issues to help ensure completion of all project tasks in a timely manner

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years of experience in procedural, management or systems analysis work; OR, Six (6) years of experience in procedural, management, or systems analysis work; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/ or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relational and multi-dimensional databases, spreadsheet, statistical, and presentation software packages
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research methods
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical writing and/or process diagramming and documentation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASU’s organizational structure and/or higher education administration

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting
  • Activities include evaluating information and interfaces that are primarily visual using computer workstations and mobile devices
  • Required to travel moderate distances on campus and between campuses to perform wor.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include resolution of conflicts
  • Regular activities require the ability to clearly communicate
