We are hiring a Business Analyst, which is a specialized, technically oriented position that serves an important role in supporting and transforming processes including but not limited to class registration, grading, awarding degrees, PeopleSoft Student Records, quality assurance testing, and query building and reporting.

Essential Duties

  • Applies functional expertise of PeopleSoft and Student Records to address needs for University Registrar Services and the University.
  • Maintains PeopleSoft configuration including student groups, checklist items, and service indicator codes.
  • Schedule and maintain batch processes that update records in PeopleSoft.
  • Provide in-depth testing of Student Records changes delivered with PeopleSoft updates.
  • Defines functional specifications, creates test scenarios, tests, implements and maintains system enhancements and documentation.
  • Defines, develops, and executes test plans and other QA assessments.
  • Designs, develops and validates queries and reports related to enrollment and retention using PeopleSoft and the ASU data warehouse for the University and for operations within University Registrar Services.
  • Develops queries and reports using DBeaver, Alteryx, Hyperion Studio, Microsoft BI and PeopleSoft Query Manager.
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously across multiple functions and/or units.
  • Designs and recommends alternative solutions to improve existing processes and systems.
  • Defines requirements, develops project plans and specifications, establishes deadlines, tracks progress and manages timelines.
  • Plans and conducts meetings as needed, documents decisions, tasks, and minutes
  • Collaborates with other university technical staff on a variety of topics including University Technology Office (UTO) to ensure optimal use and efficiency of applications and related resources.
  • Coordinates PeopleSoft production processing with UTO production support and assists in resolving production issues.
  • Assists in troubleshooting processes and systems.
  • Develops and maintains systems and procedures documentation and user job aids.
  • Provides training to Registrar and other university staff on new and enhanced processes.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communications with customers, other technology specialists and vendors.
  • Serves as liaison between the business units, technology teams, and support teams.
  • Translates technical language into language suitable for non-technical people.
  • Presents materials and processes in a format appropriate to the audience.
  • Collaborates in teams with others on a variety of technology and technology support projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years of experience in procedural, management or systems analysis work; OR, Six (6) years of experience in procedural, management, or systems analysis work; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/ or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of higher education administrative systems and related business principles.
  • Experience with University Registrar Services policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions or other Student Information System.
  • Experience creating queries with DBeaver, Alteryx, Hyperion Studio, Microsoft BI and PeopleSoft Query Manager.
  • Experience reading and writing SQL.
  • Experience analyzing complicated problems and utilizing critical thinking to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Experience in project management, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs, defining business requirements and scope, time and resource management, creating and maintaining documentation, communication with developers and stakeholders, testing, and implementing.
  • Experience in work that requires attention to detail, analytical skills, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in identifying conceptual solutions that are technically feasible.
  • Experience with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.).
  • Experience using advanced Excel features including formatting, filtering, sorting, formulas, quick analysis, tables, pivots and charts.
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience performing effectively as a member of a team.

Working Environment

  • Communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze data.
  • Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Work location is in Tempe, AZ.
  • Use computer equipment, software, and relevant computer systems (e.g. PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, Slack, Jabber, Finesse, etc.).
  • Exercise good judgment, discretion and care to resolve issues and/or escalations.
  • Frequent/constant sitting at desk or work area.
  • May require occasional lifting up to 15 lbs.
