Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Engineering Information Technology (EIT) of the A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park is seeking a Business Affairs Coordinator to be a part of the department’s Business and Administration team. In this role, the incumbent coordinates EIT’s business operations that include human resources, procurement, and travel; performs professional accounting work such as maintaining a shadow system and making journal entries and allocating expenses and reconciliation; processes, reconciles and tracks accounts payable and receivables,purchase requisitions, disbursement vouchers; tracks travel expenses; and assists the Assistant Director and Assistant Dean in the department’s business affairs with these functions as and when required. This position must adhere to university human resources and financial management standards, general management and accounting principles, practices, methods, and techniques. Excellent communication and computer skills are essential to this position. A successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to apply various policies and procedures to real-world situations. In addition, a successful candidate must be positive, detail oriented, and self-motivated.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or business-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: 
  • Two (2) years of experience in accounting & administration, in addition to experience either in the field of human resource-related functions or in procurement functions. Relevant Internship experience in the area will also be considered.
  • One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of the required education. In addition, experience may be substituted by an equivalent combination of graduate-level education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Excel in particular, and in creating PDF documents and routing eSign documents for signatures/approvals using the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to various campus proprietary software systems (existing and upcoming) and outside applications used by the Engineering Information Technology office and campus.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management, office management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Possess a strong work ethic, including being conscientious and dependable.
  • Ability to consistently deliver high-quality work within quick turnaround times with excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • Manage a high volume of work and perform repetitive tasks from brief instructions.
  • Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions, and initiate needed changes in work processes to promote the department’s overall effectiveness.
  • Capable of handling sensitive materials and maintaining confidentiality.

  • Work is performed in an office environment.

  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

  • Ability to traverse short distances to deliver and pick up materials, deposit checks, and cash received by the department at the Bursar’s, and travel on campus to attend meetings and various training sessions.
  • May need to lift packages of up to 25 lbs.
