The Language Technologies Institute (LTI) at Carnegie Mellon University is a world-renowned research and education hub at the forefront of natural language processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and human-computer interaction. Established within the School of Computer Science, LTI pioneers innovative approaches to understanding, processing, and generating human language in both written and spoken forms.

LTI is currently in search of a skilled Business Administrator to support the department's financial operations. In this pivotal role, the Business Administrator will act as a trusted advisor to both faculty and staff, offering guidance on policy and administrative matters. Additionally, they will play a crucial role in providing essential information support and crafting comprehensive budgets tailored to the department's needs.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Administers and advises department on financial related policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Provides day-to-day support for implementation of assigned administrative/operations functions within the unit and supports roll-out of university wide programs as they impact the unit(s).
  • Provides business analysis and reporting. Ensures activities are in compliance with organization policies and procedures, and generally accepted accounting policies and procedures. Develops and/or assists in developing budgets for the unit. Provides oversight and ongoing monitoring or adjustments of budgets and associated expenses.
  • May support other specific programs or administrative operations for assigned units.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience in business, finance, or accounting.
  • Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills.
  • CRA preferred, but not required.

  • Work Posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, working both remotely and on-campus/in office.
