Job Overview

The College of Medicine, Department of Surgery is recruiting a Business Administrator.  This position will support the Department’s tripartite missions of teaching, research and clinical care while assuring excellence in overall financial and operational performance multiple specialty divisions

 

In collaboration with division chiefs, the Business Administrator will support The Chairman of Surgery and The Executive Director of Business and Administration in the financial and operational management of the Department. They will be responsible for planning, analysis, implementation, tracking, and targeted resource management and optimization for the College of Medicine, Department of Surgery, University of Cincinnati Physicians Surgery Faculty Practice plan and UC Health Ambulatory Surgery Clinical Practice Sites.  The position will be responsible for the overall operations and financial performance of multiple business units, overseeing clinical performance across multiple specialties and locations, assuring accurate financial reporting and analysis, managing the faculty recruitment process, assuring competitive faculty salaries and developing growth strategies for practices and hospitals.


Essential Functions
  • Manage the financial, administrative, and operational activities of several large and diversified surgical divisions with a considerable income generation component.
  • Direct personnel functions for an operating unit and oversee annual salary increase processes.
  • Coordinate budget preparation and monitor grants and contracts.
  • Determine purchasing priorities and make recommendations for major capital expenditures.
  • Support the compliance activities of the department, including research and management of clinical trials, etc.
  • Monitor and manage UC Physicians, Inc. provider compensation activities.
  • Provide financial analysis for monthly variance reporting.
  • Perform budget analysis and assist in the development of budgetary forecasts.
  • Prepare and assist in budget-related statistical analyses, estimates and financial reports.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education

Bachelor's degree with three (3) years’ experience; -OR- Associate's degree and five (5) years’ experience; -OR- seven (7) years’ experience; degree must be in Business Administration or related field.


Required Experience
  • Financial and administrative experience is required and must include three (3) years of supervision.
  • Must possess the business/financial experience to be fully proficient in performing most or all work assignments.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Master’s degree is ideal, with 3-5 years of experience within a medical physician group, or other healthcare organization.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using a large enterprise financial system is ideal.
  • Financial planning and modeling skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a diverse team of employees in a complex operation.
